Netflix fast.com performance

Hello, Lately we have been troubleshooting complaints from customers of several ISPs about relatively low results when testing to Netflix's fast.com When we started troubleshooting we notice the following: 1. When the latency to the fast.com test server is ~70ms results are significantly lower than speedtest.net results or Google fiber results. 2. When latency to the fast.com server is low (10-20ms, over DSL link) the results are similar between speedtest.net and fast.com When looking at packet captures of the fast.com test we notice the following: 1. fast.com pushes traffic very aggressively: we have applied a shaper with CIR=100Mbps and 200ms and even 500ms queue limit (cisco jargon) and still noticed drops when performing fast.com tests. 2. Packets originated from fast.com do not have the tcp push (psh) flag on. 3. It seems that fast.com recovery from packet loss is not very good over high latency (~70ms). It seems to us that after a packet loss even the server reaches his cwnd and stops transmitting for relatively long periods. We are interested to know if anybody else experience similar behaviour (with similar latency) or have any other insights into this. Centurylink contact for Boise?

Hey all, apologies for formatting since I'm on my iPhone. Is there anyone on list that happens to know a contact for CenturyLink who can help with some major network issues going on in Boise? Nearly every customer I have with a DSL line is reporting severe and inconsistent connectivity issues with Microsoft, Reddit, Adobe, and even my servers in Washington state off of Westin. Biggest problem is that for every customer it's a different set of issues even though they are off of the same central offices. One can't get to MS, another can, while another has the reverse issue with Reddit. Mostly seeing connection timeouts to various ports (TCP and UDP), but yet can still ping the hosts. From my own DSL, for example, I can't browse reddit from one IP, but works fine from the next IP in the same subnet. That other IP can't establish an IAX2 tunnel to my coloc in WA, but my LAN firewall can. Its driving me nuts. Any insight from a CL engineer would be much appreciated. Brielle Sent from my iPhone

Reliability of Juniper MIC3-3D-1X100GE-CFP and CFP in general

Hello, We're planning to phase out some 10G link-aggregations in favor of 100G interfaces. We've been looking at buying MIC3-3D-1X100GE-CFP, MPC3E and Fiberstore CFPs. I've been told that CFPs (in general) weren't that reliable. They were kinda "replaced" almost a year and a half or so after its introduction by CFP2 and then by CFP4 and so on. Size and power consumption aside, are the MIC3-3D-1X100GE-CFP and CFP modules reliable at all? Are they the SFP-TX of the 100GBase? Eric

23456 is AS_TRANS. Either your router does not support 4 byte AS or there is a bug at AS 12956 or AS 12956 is intentionally prepending 23456.
