Blast-RADIUS attack

Hi Nanog Today we announced a vulnerability in the RADIUS protocol, based on its outdated use of the MD5 hash function. We wanted to share it with this list because we suspect many NANOG folks could be operating RADIUS in their networks (to control admin access to routers and switches and other networking gear). Our Blast-RADIUS attack allows a Man-in-the-Middle (MitM), with access to RADIUS traffic, to gain unauthorized administrative access to the devices using RADIUS clients for authentication. It does this without needing to brute force or steal credentials or shared secrets. The attack has been given a CVSS score of 9.0. This attack works on all authentication modes of RADIUS/UDP apart from those that use EAP. It exploits a protocol vulnerability that has been present in the RADIUS specifications since the 1990s. We exploited the vulnerability by developing an improved attack on the MD5 hash function. The long-term fix is to run RADIUS over TLS. There are also short term patches for RADIUS/UDP. Vendors have released new mitigations against this attack today. Akamai connectivity issue across several states

We are seeing significant connectivity issues across several states to what appears to be only Akamai served websites. Most of all the traceroutes to impacted sites, when they are impacted, go through Dallas Equinix. For instance, we are not seeing responses from Akamai network when packets traverse 206.223.119.223. (eqix-da1.akamaitechnologies.com) but other paths appear to work just fine. Example of reproducible test: SRC: 86.63.159.1 DST: hulu.com (23.222.241.90) We have had a ticket open with Akamai since Friday and have requested updates and called in for help with little to no feedback. Netrality NOC contact?

E-mails have gone unanswered for what I would consider an emergency ... unusual for a datacenter. HE.net problem

We have a report on outages that he.net has been placed in ICANN client hold, and people's DNS service is falling over on this Independence day. If you work in DNS for HE, you might want to look into this. I have double checked the report, and I am seeing the status as well. Hurricane serves lots of dns, I would classify this as a P1 ticket. What connections are possible when we leave our data at the door and spend a day on local networks? What new metaphors will help us create spaces for meaningful and different relations partially online? Last year provided an opening up a decade after platforms foreclosed on a sense of possibility of an earlier web. Turmoil on social media was the backdrop for creative experimentation with protocols and in networked spaces. Yet despite these new avenues, the myriad problems of being online haven’t been adequately addressed. The internet is dead, long live the internet. Before the previous web took shape and before an “always-on” and powered present, there were multiple ways to connect across boundaries and scales. Data moved by foot or mail across sneakernets, computing was time-shared so multiple users could access scarce resources, and ad hoc networks emerged from transitory LAN parties. Drawing on practices of local-first , solar-powered servers , folk software , and permacomputing , Our Networks 2024 explores transitional technologies and forms of computing that break from always-on connectivity. LACNOG 2024 – Call for Presentations LACNOG, the Latin American and Caribbean Network Operators Group, will hold its LACNOG 2024 conference from 7 to 11 October 2024 together with the LACNIC 42 event. The event is scheduled to take place in hybrid format in the city of Asunción, Paraguay. The LACNOG 2024 Program Committee invites the Internet community to submit their presentation proposals for the event. In line with the spirit of LACNOG, topics should be geared towards Internet development in the region.
