Hi All, Hopefully this is the right place to post this question. I'm a routing guy mainly working with ISIS/BGP for my company in our core space. I have an opportunity to get involve with our L2 DWDM network. We are a Cisco shop using NCS2K as DWDM nodes. But before jump into learning the NCS specific stuff, I would like to take a vendor neutral training course in Optical fiber testing with OSA/OTDR, OTN, DWDM signaling, OSNR/dispersion....etc. I think this will help me understand how to build out a DWDM network from ground up. I'm hoping someone I could get into designing network for my company. Thanks in advance, James

Clueful netops/sysops persons at Canon

Hello, One of our customers is having issues with his Canon printers that needs to connect to https://ugwportal.net for whatever reason. The issue is only visible from one of our netblock to a few IPs in 202.248.100.0/24. I don't believe this is a routing issue. The netblock is routed by Fujitsu's AS2510 and the servers may be even managed by Fujitsu so I've tried to reach fip-idcstaff(a)ml.jp.fujitsu.com and fip-idcstaff(a)dl.jp.fujitsu.com who are listed as the admin and tech contact for 202.248.100.0/24 but the tech contact email bounced. The second address didn't seem to bounce back but I am not convinced we're reaching the right company/group so I'm trying to find a clueful contact specifically from Canon in North America or even Europe to take a look help us find the right group to address the situation. Cisco Metro Ethernet Switching

Hey there! I'm currently working on a project which entails refreshing a few EoL switches that sit on a Metro Ethernet fiber ring that we own acting as essentially a PE handoff. It's primarily just a Layer 2 ring with mostly ME3400E switches. We are not in a place to convert the entire ring to our standard Nokia SAR platform, and just wanted to bring all of our sites to standard on the ME3400E platform for consistency (have four switches on the ring that are currently 3560G's and don't support the needed QoS/CoS). As the ME3400E is currently End of Sale, what would you guys recommend as far as a replacement? I am leaning towards the ASR920's (affordable, seems like a solid proven platform, future flexibility), or the NCS 520 (Ciscos recommended replacement), but neither of them seem like appropriate replacements for a simple Layer 2 switching platform with just the need for decent QoS and CoS capabilities. No Layer 3, MPLS, or 10G+ is required. 12 1G SFP ports is about all we need. Let me know your thoughts -- haven't payed much attention to the Cisco service provider space as of late. Thank you! If you do receive a full-feed, chances are that you will get more specific routes than the ones that come into your blacklist and achieve nothing. If you do not have a full-feed, it is relatively straightforward to fetch one of the lists available on the Internet and inject it in your BGP. Michel. Greetings, Is anyone offering a service providing BGP routes by country? I'm not looking to buy transit, but rather build policies based on the routes received to allow traffic from certain countries, or disallow traffic from others. Recommendation: Good paging / alerting software ?

Hi there, I'm looking for a recommendation for a good paging / alerting system *for personal use*. I'm monitoring a number of servers, VMs, routers / switches and such, and currently get ~10 pages a week. Things I've already tried: I'm currently using OpsGenie, but don't really like the UI. I briefly tried PagerTree, and have used PagerDuty in the past -- I was happy with PagerDuty, but don't really want to be paying $10 per month for this (it's just for personal use, and that seemed a bit excessive). I'm also a happy Pushover customer - this works well, but it's ability to customise / close alerts seems to be missing. It works really well for other types of notifications though. Requirements: 1: Cheap! 2 : AlertManager integration - I mainly use Prometheus for monitoring, and it sends alerts to AlertManager. 3: I'd like an iOS / Android app - having things come in over SMS / messages makes it too easy to miss things. I also don't want to use e.g Slack for this because it's too easy to miss them amongst other messages. 4: A web interface would be nice, but not 100% necessary. 5: "Alerts" - the ability to Ack / Close alerts. This signals back to AlertManger. 6: Escalations would be nice - if I don't respond to an alert in N minutes, send it again, possibly with a more grumpy noise. Because this is just for personal use I really don't want to be spending money on this... Thanks in advance for any suggestions... W -- I don't think the execution is relevant when it was obviously a bad idea in the first place. This is like putting rabid weasels in your pants, and later expressing regret at having chosen those particular rabid weasels and that pair of pants. ---maf
