Fraudulent use of networks and theft of services in all sectors of the telecom industry continue to grow between 10 percent and 12 percent annually. Though accurate fraud figures are nearly impossible to pin down, between $4 billion and $22 billion is lost each year, and up to 10 percent of a carrier.s bottom line is lost to simple subscription fraud and other low-tech scams, such as when criminals sign up for service using fake names.

My first daughter's pet rabbit re-wired my apartment network, power and data. At SRI in Menlo Park, the squirrels were always keen for that tasty grey cable whenever it was run where they could get it. I wish I had a moose-and-cable story. Sorry.

Indeed. Lately, I have not been able to clean a very annoying piece of crud named "CoolWebSearch". Spybot will not always detect and never remove; Ad-aware will likely detect but not remove either. None of the other crapware removers I have tried could clean the machine either. I have instructed helpdesk not to waste any time with it and systematically re-image the infected PC :-( Fortunately, re-imaging a PC is now a matter of minutes. Michel.

I ruled it out for financial reasons: eventually a skilled tech will indeed be able to clean the machine, but the bottom line is not favorable in a mid-size or large corporate environment: it takes a lot less time and money to send a grease monkey reload the machine and send L2 tech to put back user settings. Not elegant nor smart, but works. Michel.
