Hey all, attempting to assess something related to networking but its on the SIP/telephony side of things. I'd like to know how many have had success and failures with route dampening. Purpose of this question is, I'm wondering about a method a VoIP PBX could take similar to BGP's dampening where the following would occur: SIPUSER REGISTER (SEND SIPINFO + IP_INFO) --> Server If SIPUSER decides to either REGISTER, INVITE, SUBSCRIBE, etc., in an insane amount of time, VoIP PBX would take action on it. Give SIPUSER an initial penalty and increment it justly however, it *cannot* be address based. It would likely be two predefined variables. NANOG Program Committee nominations needed

Nominations for the NANOG Program Committee are still open. There are eight terms ending this year: Joe Abley Kevin Epperson Steve Feldman Hank Kilmer Christopher Morrow David O'Leary Ted Seely Bill Woodcock (All eight are eligible for another term, under the charter.) ** Procedure ** To nominate yourself or someone else, please send mail to nanog-elections(a)nanog.org with the following, no later than Wednesday, October 11: - Your name - Nominee's name (if not you) - Nominee's email address - Nominee's phone number - Reasons why you believe the nominee is qualified to serve on the Program Committee. Merit will contact each of the nominees to verify interest and possibly request additional information. The Steering Committee, with input from the current Program Committee, will then select the person to fill the position. ** Eligibility ** The charter states: "To be eligible to be appointed as a member of the Program Committee, an individual must have attended one NANOG meeting within the prior calendar year (12 months). " ** Duties ** Again quoting the charter: "The Program Committee is responsible for motivating/soliciting people to submit interesting talks, selecting the submissions which seem most appropriate (with some attention to presentation skills), and following up with speakers after acceptances to ensure that presentations are completed in time, with ample warning of potential problems with the presentation." "Each member of the Program Committee must review all presentations submitted for each meeting. The Chair may excuse a member from one meeting's review cycle due to extenuating circumstances, but if a member misses two meetings in a row, he or she may be removed from the committee." ** Length of term ** This position is for the remainder of a two year term, which began after the Fall 2005 meeting, and ends with the Fall 2007 meeting. NANOG 38 Lightning Talks

We are now accepting submissions for lightning talks at NANOG 38. Meeting attendees may submit a talk title and brief abstract at http://www.nanogpc.org/lightning/ Selected speakers will be notified Monday evening, with any slides due by Tuesday morning. A lightning talk is a very short presentation or speech by any attendee on any topic relevant to the NANOG audience. These are limited to ten minutes; this will be strictly enforced. If you have a topic that's timely, interesting, or even a crackpot idea you want to share, we encourage you to consider presenting it. Signups for lightning talks will be accepted during the NANOG meeting. The Program Committee will decide which submissions are relevant (using criteria based on the NANOG mailing list AUP,) and choose the best six to be presented. Use of slides is optional. All slides must be in PDF or Powerpoint format, and will be loaded in advance onto the speaker laptop on the podium. There is a good overview of the use of lightning talks at the Perl conference at http://www.perl.com/pub/a/2004/07/30/lightningtalk.html. Bored? Seeking something more exciting than a mid-day IGP migration and East St Louis bowling? Tired of listening about things that "won't scale" and configuring RIP on your core routers? SFM and PIC failures make you suicidal? Here's your chance to have once-in-lifetime experience! Few people expressed interest in going skydiving - so I would like to put a wider call to see if there's any interest. The dropzone is 1 hour away (Archway skydiving - www.archwayskydiving.com) Price is 229$ for the tandem jump (you and instructor) (plus 80$ for videotaping if you want). Fun facts: * 1 in 400 jumps experience parachute malfunction Tentative plan is to leave hotel at around 10am, at dropzone at 11am, expect to spend 4-5 hours there, come back at 5pm or so - just in time for the community meeting!
