Dear Community... One more thank you to Terremark for hosting NANOG45, and to all those in the Dominican Republic who made our stay a bit more enjoyable. However, it sure is nice to be home. New Year NANOG 45 Reminders

Happy New Year, NANOGers! I hope you all had a good [operationally quiet] end to 2008, and look forward to 2009 along with this January's meeting in the Dominican Republic. Registered NANOG45 attendees will get further updates sent to the <nanog-attendee(a)nanog.org>, so please do subscribe to it if you had opted out at the time of registration, either by mailing <Nanog-attendee-request(a)nanog.org> or dropping http://mailman.nanog.org/mailman/listinfo/nanog-attendee into your web browser. We have been working through our generous host Terremark with the Dominican Republic's government to make entry a smooth process. The NANOG Program Committee has once again provided an excellent agenda (http://nanog.org/meetings/nanog45/agenda.php) for the conference. Our sponsors (http://nanog.org/meetings/nanog45/sponsors.php) have also received assistance with customs issues, and are ready to meet and talk with you, our clued attendees. Should you need a formal Letter of Invitation, please contact Merit staff at <nanog-support(a)nanog.org>. Information regarding entrance and exit requirements (with links to official DR sites) are available on the meeting website (see http://www.nanog.org/meetings/nanog45/entry.php) For those still sorting out their travel, be aware that the registration fee will increase on January 16 (see https://nanog.merit.edu/registration/) Flight costs are about the same as domestic travel within the US, and the hotel rates are less than many of our other locations, but the NANOG group rate ends January 9 (see http://www.nanog.org/meetings/nanog45/hotel.php) so if you haven't booked yet, time is of the essence. NANOG 45 Agenda Posted

On behalf of the NANOG Program Committee and Merit I'm pleased to announce that an updated Agenda is available and posted at: http://www.nanog.org/meetings/nanog45/agenda.php We're excited about the quality of the agenda and we hope you are, too. I want to thank all of the members of the Program Committee who worked hard to recruit, review and select the presentations and tutorials that make up this program. I also want to thank everyone who submitted a proposal. The quality and variety seemed very high this time around. Please note that there remain a very small number of slots open for late-breaking or especially topical presentations, so if the Internet melts down completely between now and January, feel free to submit a presentation explaining what happened. Lighting Talk slots will officially open after the first of the year. If you have not already registered for the conference and reserved your hotel room, now is a great time to do that. Remember that Hotel expenses are fantastically low this time, with rooms as cheap as $104 and cheap flights are still available to the SDQ airport. Our Host, Terremark, continues to work hard to provide all of the additional support items to make everyone comfortable in Santo Domingo. A meeting that is sure to be unique, and one you will not want to miss! The Program Committee has been working very hard, a draft of the complete agenda is expected very early next week. NANOG 45 Preliminary Agenda and Conference Registration

NANOG 45 is fast approaching. Today we have a preliminary agenda to announce that should assist people who need supplementary material for travel justifications. There are a number of presentation slots still available. The Program Committee will continue to accept presentations next week (if you plan to submit something, today was the deadline, but we will try to review presentations that arrive over the weekend or on Monday. Please contact me if you have a talk in progress and need information on how to submit it, but in general: http://www.nanogpc.org/ Please note that conference registration is open and the early bird discount expires in under two weeks: https://nanog.merit.edu/registration/ Hotel registration is open as well, although to get the discount rate you may have to call the hotel. They are working on the automated registration issue and should have it resolved soon. Be aware: the hotel is outrageously cheap for very nice rooms (part of what should make your travel justification easier), so be sure to register soon. Also, consider booking travel soon. Mailing List Committee call for volunteers

Hi Everyone The Mailing List Committee (MLC) is now seeking volunteers to fill two terms ending November 2010. Please send expressions of interest to admins(a)nanog.org by Monday, November 3rd. We aim to announce the new MLC members by Tuesday, November 11th. The current members of the MLC are Kris Foster, Simon Lyall, and Sue Joiner (Merit). David Barak and Tim Yocum currently hold the seats with expiring terms. The NANOG mailing list serves an important role in the community by providing a day-to-day forum for network operators. Participating in the MLC gives you the opportunity to make a noticeable contribution. The MLC is covered under section 7.1.2 of the NANOG Charter. New NANOG Program Committee

In its last scheduled meeting, the NANOG Steering Committee selected a new Programme Committee. With seventeen very well-qualified candidates and eight open positions, it was a difficult decision to make. The SC, with input from the current PC and the community, felt it necessary to form a balanced PC, with a diversity of backgrounds, knowledge, and experience, and one that is representative of the entire NANOG constituency. The SC would like to thank outgoing the PC member Keith Mitchell for his valuable contributions while serving on the PC. Additionally, the SC is grateful to the eight candidates who volunteered their time but who weren't selected. We hope they will all consider volunteering again next time.
