Call for Nominations for NANOG Steering Committee 2008/9

Hello everyone, Elections for three of the six elected positions on the NANOG Steering Committee will be held in October 2008. The currently-serving Steering Committee members whose terms are expiring are Joe Provo, Randy Bush and Philip Smith. Randy and Philip have also served two consecutive terms so, as per the charter, they cannot be considered for re-election until October 2009. The NANOG Steering Committee works closely with Merit to promote, support and improve NANOG. The Steering Committee is responsible for the selection of the Program Committee and the Mailing List Committee, and is the community's instrument for ensuring that NANOG as an organisation remains open, relevant and useful. If you care about NANOG as a forum, and think you would like to take a turn at volunteering your time to help make it better, please consider either volunteering yourself or nominating someone else. There is no limit to the number of nominations that may be submitted by a single person. Discounted registration ends in less than two weeks, so save yourself $75 and get registered. You know you're going to go, so just go already. I would *strongly* suggest you reserve a hotel room if you have not already. The last several NANOGs all available discounted rooms in the room block have gone very quickly. Hi folks, The tentative agenda for NANOG44 will be released shortly and registration will open for the October meeting. There are many time slots marked as 'speaker - pending' or 'tutorial - pending' due to abstracts lacking actual presentations. We believe there are many good ideas lurking within the abstracts and highly encourage those who consider their submission a work in progress to complete the presentation portion and submit it to NANOG-Support(a)nanog.org today. Several abstracts have been received for the October meeting and we are going to assume they are intended for NANOG44. Please clearly mark submissions if NANOG45 is your intention. Our next call is scheduled for early July so keep the submissions, and promised slides for those with abstracts in the tool at present, flowing. NANOG 44 Call For Presentations Posted

The Call for Presentations for NANOG 44, to be held in Los Angeles, CA October 12 - 15 is posted: http://www.nanog.org/mtg-0810/callforpresent.html The deadline for submissions is July 7 (fast approaching) so please post your abstracts at: http://www.nanogpc.org/ where you will receive instructions on how to submit slideware. If you have a good idea but a presentation but need some feedback or some help developing it, please contact me and I'll be happy to either work directly with you or find someone else on the program committee to help you put together a presentation. Note also that this conference is held just before the ARIN meeting in LA and we are working on programming Wednesday morning to be of special interest to the ARIN audience. So any engineering or operations talks that impact registry policies under consideration would be most appreciated for that segment. The CFP lists a number of subjects were interested in, but as previous NANOG attendees know: if it's on-topic on the mailing list and of interest to network operators, we want it in the program. Submissions have already started rolling in, so for the best chance to have your talk accepted, please submit by the deadline above. Hi everyone, In its recent meeting, the SC selected Brian Deardorff to fill the PC position vacated by Ted Seely last month. Brian joins the current PC (http://www.nanog.org/pc.current.html) and serves until the term is up for renewal in October this year. The SC would like to thank David Conrad, Randy Epstein, Michael K. Hi everyone, In its recent meeting, the SC selected four volunteers from the community to join Sue Joiner of Merit on the Mail List Committee. She ran the Los Angeles IXP since it was established in 1994/1995, and grew it very well, way beyond how it could have grown if it had been done solely as an academic project. She included all kinds of commercial and governmental folks, roped in One Wilshire, etc. Very active in getting everybody there to peer, regardless of many of them not having much of any language in common, since LA is such a big hub for Asian traffic. At the same time that she was doing all the outward-facing IXP stuff, she was also equally active in Los Nettos, the SoCal R&E network.
