Registration is now open for the 51st Meeting of the North American Network Operators' Group. NANOG 51 will be held January 30 through February 2, 2011, at the InterContinental Miami on Biscayne Bay. The meeting will be hosted by Terremark. See http://www.nanog.org/meetings/nanog51 for complete meeting details, and follow the important links on the left to submit presentations, register, and reserve your hotel room. Please note there are tiered rates for registration, so plan to register early to take advantage of the best rate. If you need lodging, plan to make your reservation early to guarantee a room in the conference hotel. NANOG has an excellent room rate that also includes complimentary in-room Internet access. NANOG 51 Call For Presentations now open

Folks, Please take a look at the NANOG 51 Call For Presentations ( http://nanog.org/meetings/nanog51/callforpresent.php) he North American Network Operators' Group (NANOG) will hold its 51st meeting in Miami on January 30 to February 2, 2011. NANOG51<http://nanog.org/meetings/nanog51/index.php>will be hosted by Terremark <http://www.terremark.com/>. The NANOG Program Committee is now seeking proposals for presentations, panels, tutorials, tracks sessions, and keynote materials for the NANOG51 program. We invite presentations highlighting issues relating to technology already deployed or soon-to-be deployed in the Internet. Vendors are encouraged to work with operators to present real-world deployment experiences with the vendor's products and interoperability. NANOG51 submissions are welcome at http://pc.nanog.org. Acceptance notifications for NANOG51 will be sent by the Program Committee starting December 9, 2010, and will continue through January 13, 2011. NANOG election results and other news

As usual for our October meetings, there has been a lot happening, with more to come over the next few days. Our annual election was held during NANOG 50, with these results: - Patrick Gilmore, Robert Seastrom, and Richard Steenbergen were elected to two-year terms on the NANOG SC (and also therefore to the NewNOG Board.) - The charter amendment to transition NANOG activities from Merit to NewNOG passed with 210 votes in favor, 16 votes against. - In the NewNOG election, the measure to adopt the Bylaws passed with 169 votes in favor, 26 against. I have been elected by the SC to serve again as Chair for the coming year, and Sylvie LaPerriere was elected as Vice-Chair. The Program Committee selection process is underway, and the results will be announced in the next day so. Nominations are still open for Communications Committee positions. I would like to encourage any of you who regularly participate in the mailing list and are interested in maintaining list quality and in building new forms of communication for the community to consider volunteering. Lightning talk submissions for NANOG50 are now open

Greetings folks, A lightning talk is a 10-minute presentation or speech by any attendee on any topic relevant to the NANOG audience. If you have a something that's timely, interesting, or even a crackpot idea you want to share, we encourage you to consider presenting it. For those of you aspiring to give a full talk at a future NANOG, this is a great way to test drive the podium and get in front of the crowd! While we've previously had two or three days of lightning talks during a conference, at NANOG50 we will only be doing lightning talks *one* day: Tuesday 2:30 PM - 3:00 PM. The sooner we see yours, the better the chance to get up on stage to fill one of three openings. So... you're interested? Simply visit http://pc.nanog.org/lightning/ and submit your abstract before 5:00PM EST on Monday Oct 4. While you're waiting for a response, get your slides ready to go should your talk be selected. The Program Committee will vote on all Lightning Talk submissions onsite at the meeting, and a submitter will be notified about his or her submission on Monday evening. Call for Nominations - Communications Committee

Hello: Nominations for the NANOG Communications Committee are now open. This is a great way to become involved and serve the NANOG community. From the website: "The Communications Committee is a group of five individuals from the NANOG community who together are responsible for the administration and moderation of the NANOG mailing lists. A new Communications Committee will be selected by the Steering Committee after the election in October. Two positions are to be filled. The currently-serving Communications Committee members whose terms are expiring are Randy Epstein and Tim Yocum. The main NANOG mailing list serves an important role in the community by providing a day-to-day forum for network operators. Participating as a member of the Communications Committee gives you the opportunity to make a noticeable contribution. The Communications Committee is covered under section 7.1.2 of the NANOG charter." If you are interested in volunteering on the Communications Committee, please either volunteer yourself or nominate someone you feel would be willing and able to serve. Please send nominations to nominations(a)nanog.org and include your name, company affiliation, a brief biography and a statement of interest. This information will be posted to the NANOG website in the coming weeks.
