NANOG 52 overflow hotel possibility

It appears that the primary hotel in Denver for NANOG 52 is close to being sold out for the night of Tuesday, June 14. We are exploring alternate hotels nearby. It might be possible to get a small room block with a discounted rate at a hotel a few blocks away, but NewNOG would need to guarantee a minimum number of room nights and pay for any shortfall. So, if you have not yet made hotel reservations for NANOG 52 but plan to do so, please reply privately to me with your name and the exact nights you would need. We will use that information to determine if there is sufficient demand to guarantee the additional room block. In exchange, we'll let you know first if the additional block at the alternate hotel becomes available. Thanks, Steve

NANOG transition update

A lot of progress has been made since NANOG 51, so I'd like to share this update with the community. * Association management contract We recently completed our RFP and selection process, and have contracted with Association Management Solutions (http://www.amsl.com) to provide association management and meeting support services for NANOG. We are excited to be working with AMS, as they have an excellent set of management and IT services which are very good fits to our needs. AMS might already be familiar to some of our community, as they have providing IETF secretariat services for the past several years. Representatives from AMS will be with us in Denver to observe the conference and meet the community. Over the next couple of months our meeting registration, membership, mailing list and finance systems will be migrated to AMS infrastructure. The transition has already started, and will be completed in time for the start of registration for the NANOG53 meeting. We'll share more details of the transition process as they become available. * NANOG Intellectual Property All of the NANOG intellectual property originated by Merit Network, including the name, domain, logos, mailing lists and archives, have been transferred to NewNOG. This means that we _are_ NANOG! We expect that the interim name "NewNOG" will eventually go away. * Non-profit status NewNOG, Inc. has been recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. (See http://www.newnog.org/docs/IRSletter.pdf for the IRS determination letter.) This means that individual donations might be tax-deductible. * Future conferences Work continues on securing hosts and venues for future NANOG conferences. The current list of future events is at http://www.nanog.org/meetings/future/, and we expect to have the October 2012 meeting ready to announce in the next few weeks. And if you haven't already registered, please plan to join us at NANOG52 in Denver next month! The Program Committee has published a great agenda, and the hotel block is filling fast. NANOG Membership Update

NANOG Community, As many of you know, NANOG has been taken over by a new membership-based non-profit corporation, NewNOG, Inc. Things are going well so far. The NANOG Intellectual Property transfer is moving along nicely. We've been signing up lots of sponsors for the Denver meeting coming up in June, and are getting lots of interest in sponsorship for next fall's Philadelphia meeting. We expect to have great programs for those meetings as well. We began signing up members during the Miami NANOG meeting at the end of January, and are now up to 160 members. In addition to providing some of the organization's financial support, the membership makes the decisions on how the organization is run. In effect, the membership is NANOG. The current list of members is at https://newnog.org/members.php. The membership policy is at https://newnog.org/membership-policy.php. For those of you who haven't joined yet, we'd like to once again ask you to become members. Membership is $100 per year, with a 10% discount for pre-paying for three or more years. Student membership is $50 per year. Members receive a $25 per meeting registration discount. You can join at https://newnog.org/join.php. We will also have a membership table set up at NANOG52 in Denver, which you can visit for information or assistance. NANOG'ers, On Thursday, 4/14, the NANOG Program Committee will meet to review submissions for NANOG 52. In an effort to get a topic list our the community as early as requested (tentative for 4/15), we do need to have all abstracts and slide submissions in as soon as possible. A quick review of the PC tool indicates that we don't have enough content for the meeting yet, so please submit your work ASAP!
