Hello Everyone:> As Philip Smith indicated... a few more update messages to the community will be coming, and here is one of them. First, Merit would like to draw your attention to the Hotel Reservation link http://nanog.org/meetings/nanog44/hotel.php An IMPORTANT NOTE to be aware of is, the Hotel room block rate EXPIRES on FRIDAY, Sept. 19! Merit has reserved rooms for the community, so please do reserve your room before the deadline. Just an easy click away. So now that you have reserved your room, you should check out the updated NANOG44 meeting agenda. http://nanog.org/meetings/nanog44/agenda.php Highlights include: Updated presentations and content information, along with meeting room assignments. Soon, Merit will also highlight which presentations will be broadcast and which will be encoded for future reference. For the first time while at NANOG, Merit will have a room assigned to view the Fall 2008 Internet2 Member Meeting netcast. There are evening events on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday!! And we have a very exciting joint session with ARIN on Wednesday morning. Lastly, the NANOG-Attendee(a)nanog.org email list will help you keep in touch with each other. It will also be the distribution method for sharing additional site and meeting specific information. Make sure if you are attending, you are subscribed!! Call for volunteers for the NANOG PC

Hi everyone, There are going to be a few announcements over the next few days regarding all things NANOG, so please bear with us! Thanks to all who volunteered for the Steering Committee - the list of candidates to join the three continuing Steering Committee members is at http://www.nanog.org/governance/elections/2008elections/2008sc_candidates.p…. We will be holding elections during NANOG 44 in LA to determine who will join the Steering Committee. Now to the Program Committee! Here is your chance to help shape the future of the NANOG program content. NANOG Program Committee The NANOG Program Committee is a group of sixteen individuals from the NANOG community who together are responsible for the solicitation and selection of material for NANOG meeting Programs. A new NANOG Program Committee will be selected by the NANOG Steering Committee after the Steering Committee election in October. Eight positions are to be filled, and the Steering Committee is now seeking nominations. Per the NANOG charter (6.2.1), eligible candidates are individuals who have attended at least one NANOG meeting in the past 12 months (i.e. one or more of NANOG 42, NANOG 43 or NANOG 44). Broad technical knowledge of Internet operations and familiarity with NANOG meetings are useful attributes. Having constructive opinions and ideas about how NANOG meetings might be improved is of high value. If you are interested in nominating someone else or yourself, please send a brief note to nominations(a)nanog.org. The note should include the nominee's contact details, and a brief description of why (in your opinion) the individual concerned would be a good addition to the Program Committee. The Steering Committee will accept nominations received before the conclusion of NANOG 44 on October 14. Important Reminders and Announcement

Dear NANOG Community: Just a few reminders and a news item. The deadline for Steering Committee Nominations is near, Tue 2008-09-09. Complete election information is available on the NANOG website. The new process will work if many are involved... nudge: A great NANOG44 agenda is now posted. Make sure to check it out and register!! Merit, along with the entire NANOG community, appreciates the involvement and support from our sponsors. If you are interested, please send email to nanog-support(a)nanog.org, as a few sponsorship opportunities for NANOG44 remain. Do not miss out on your opportunity to be part of this meeting. As many of you know, Merit has been working to improve the NANOG.ORG website. We are very pleased to announce the new site will be launched on Thursday morning, Sept. 4, at 7 am EST. Members of the NANOG Steering Committee have been working with Merit, and we hope all issues have been resolved. We believe the community will find the new site to be much more useful. "I think the website looks great, is very professional, and a huge leap forward in functionality and usability", Philip Smith-SC Chair. New features include: - Graphic and Text version of the web site - New presentation archive that allows for searching by NANOG meeting, year, presenter and more. - "Print This" feature, which will strip away page navigation for easier printing. - Easier web site navigation and improved appearance - RSS Feeds and much more! The meeting archive and presentation archive are still being completed, but you will soon be able to access the remaining past meeting information. Thanks for being a part of NANOG. Call for Nominations for NANOG Steering Committee 2008/9

Hello everyone, Elections for three of the six elected positions on the NANOG Steering Committee will be held in October 2008. The currently-serving Steering Committee members whose terms are expiring are Joe Provo, Randy Bush and Philip Smith. Randy and Philip have also served two consecutive terms so, as per the charter, they cannot be considered for re-election until October 2009. The NANOG Steering Committee works closely with Merit to promote, support and improve NANOG. The Steering Committee is responsible for the selection of the Program Committee and the Mailing List Committee, and is the community's instrument for ensuring that NANOG as an organisation remains open, relevant and useful. If you care about NANOG as a forum, and think you would like to take a turn at volunteering your time to help make it better, please consider either volunteering yourself or nominating someone else. For more information about the role of the Steering Committee, or to find out more about what's involved in being an Steering Committee member, please consult the NANOG charter or contact someone who is already serving and ask them directly. http://www.nanog.org/charter.html http://www.nanog.org/sc.current.html HOW TO NOMINATE SOMEONE You may nominate someone else, or yourself. There is no limit to the number of nominations that may be submitted by a single person. NANOG44 updated agenda, so register already

<hat org="NANOG program committee" role="chair"> An updated agenda for NANOG44 has been posted at: http://nanog.org/mtg-0810/agenda.html you might notice that this NANOG features: * Keynote by Vint Cerf of Google * More tutorials than you can shake a stick at * A panel of Internet Luminaries addressing the current addressing situation from a historical perspective * A surfeit of IPv6 content (with some more likely before the event). * Lots of other great, operational presentations So I would humbly suggest that you (collectively) register for NANOG44 ( https://nanog.merit.edu/registration/ ) as quickly as possible. Discounted registration ends in less than two weeks, so save yourself $75 and get registered. You know you're going to go, so just go already. I would *strongly* suggest you reserve a hotel room if you have not already. The last several NANOGs all available discounted rooms in the room block have gone very quickly. ( http://nanog.org/mtg-0810/hotel.html ) Note that the program is now effectively full (there are 2-3 slots left that are saved for conditionally accepted talks that are already in progress or any presentations dealing with late-breaking events, but the event would have to be exceptionally significant and interesting). If you didn't submit for this NANOG conference, please consider submitting a presentation for NANOG45. Reminder: Presentation materials for NANOG44/45 are welcomed

Hi folks, The tentative agenda for NANOG44 will be released shortly and registration will open for the October meeting. There are many time slots marked as 'speaker - pending' or 'tutorial - pending' due to abstracts lacking actual presentations. We believe there are many good ideas lurking within the abstracts and highly encourage those who consider their submission a work in progress to complete the presentation portion and submit it to NANOG-Support(a)nanog.org today. Hi folks, As mentioned in the NANOG Program Committee call minutes, posted at http://www.nanog.org/pc.nanog44_minutes.html, we are currently accepting presentations for both NANOG44 and NANOG45. Several abstracts have been received for the October meeting and we are going to assume they are intended for NANOG44. Please clearly mark submissions if NANOG45 is your intention. Our next call is scheduled for early July so keep the submissions, and promised slides for those with abstracts in the tool at present, flowing. NANOG 44 Call For Presentations Posted

The Call for Presentations for NANOG 44, to be held in Los Angeles, CA October 12 - 15 is posted: http://www.nanog.org/mtg-0810/callforpresent.html The deadline for submissions is July 7 (fast approaching) so please post your abstracts at: http://www.nanogpc.org/ where you will receive instructions on how to submit slideware. If you have a good idea but a presentation but need some feedback or some help developing it, please contact me and I'll be happy to either work directly with you or find someone else on the program committee to help you put together a presentation. Note also that this conference is held just before the ARIN meeting in LA and we are working on programming Wednesday morning to be of special interest to the ARIN audience. So any engineering or operations talks that impact registry policies under consideration would be most appreciated for that segment. The CFP lists a number of subjects were interested in, but as previous NANOG attendees know: if it's on-topic on the mailing list and of interest to network operators, we want it in the program. Submissions have already started rolling in, so for the best chance to have your talk accepted, please submit by the deadline above.
