Mailing List Committee call for volunteers

Hi Everyone The Mailing List Committee (MLC) is now seeking volunteers to fill two terms ending November 2010. Please send expressions of interest to admins(a)nanog.org by Monday, November 3rd. We aim to announce the new MLC members by Tuesday, November 11th. The current members of the MLC are Kris Foster, Simon Lyall, and Sue Joiner (Merit). David Barak and Tim Yocum currently hold the seats with expiring terms. The NANOG mailing list serves an important role in the community by providing a day-to-day forum for network operators. Participating in the MLC gives you the opportunity to make a noticeable contribution. The MLC is covered under section 7.1.2 of the NANOG Charter. New NANOG Program Committee

In its last scheduled meeting, the NANOG Steering Committee selected a new Programme Committee. With seventeen very well-qualified candidates and eight open positions, it was a difficult decision to make. The SC, with input from the current PC and the community, felt it necessary to form a balanced PC, with a diversity of backgrounds, knowledge, and experience, and one that is representative of the entire NANOG constituency. The SC would like to thank outgoing the PC member Keith Mitchell for his valuable contributions while serving on the PC. Additionally, the SC is grateful to the eight candidates who volunteered their time but who weren't selected. We hope they will all consider volunteering again next time. New NANOG Steering Committee

The new NANOG SC held its first meeting on Tuesday evening of NANOG44. One of the first action items for the SC (as per 6.1 in the Charter) is to appoint a new chair to serve for a one year term. After holding a vote, I would like to report that I have been accorded the privilege of being chair of the NANOG SC for the next year. As incoming chair, and on behalf of the new SC, I'd like to thank Philip Smith for his exceptional leadership in the last year as outgoing SC Chair, as well as thank him for his service to the community as member of the SC for many years. I would also like to extend the SC's significant thanks to Randy Bush for his long history of valuable contribution to NANOG and the SC during his term of service on the SC. Both he and Philip have put in enormous time and energy to help NANOG be what it is today. They leave large shoes to fill. Hello Everyone:> As Philip Smith indicated... a few more update messages to the community will be coming, and here is one of them. First, Merit would like to draw your attention to the Hotel Reservation link http://nanog.org/meetings/nanog44/hotel.php An IMPORTANT NOTE to be aware of is, the Hotel room block rate EXPIRES on FRIDAY, Sept. 19! Merit has reserved rooms for the community, so please do reserve your room before the deadline. Just an easy click away. So now that you have reserved your room, you should check out the updated NANOG44 meeting agenda. http://nanog.org/meetings/nanog44/agenda.php Highlights include: Updated presentations and content information, along with meeting room assignments. Soon, Merit will also highlight which presentations will be broadcast and which will be encoded for future reference. For the first time while at NANOG, Merit will have a room assigned to view the Fall 2008 Internet2 Member Meeting netcast. There are evening events on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday!! And we have a very exciting joint session with ARIN on Wednesday morning. Lastly, the NANOG-Attendee(a)nanog.org email list will help you keep in touch with each other. It will also be the distribution method for sharing additional site and meeting specific information. Make sure if you are attending, you are subscribed!! Call for volunteers for the NANOG PC

Hi everyone, There are going to be a few announcements over the next few days regarding all things NANOG, so please bear with us! Thanks to all who volunteered for the Steering Committee - the list of candidates to join the three continuing Steering Committee members is at http://www.nanog.org/governance/elections/2008elections/2008sc_candidates.p…. We will be holding elections during NANOG 44 in LA to determine who will join the Steering Committee. Now to the Program Committee! Here is your chance to help shape the future of the NANOG program content. NANOG Program Committee The NANOG Program Committee is a group of sixteen individuals from the NANOG community who together are responsible for the solicitation and selection of material for NANOG meeting Programs. A new NANOG Program Committee will be selected by the NANOG Steering Committee after the Steering Committee election in October. Eight positions are to be filled, and the Steering Committee is now seeking nominations. Per the NANOG charter (6.2.1), eligible candidates are individuals who have attended at least one NANOG meeting in the past 12 months (i.e. one or more of NANOG 42, NANOG 43 or NANOG 44). Broad technical knowledge of Internet operations and familiarity with NANOG meetings are useful attributes. Having constructive opinions and ideas about how NANOG meetings might be improved is of high value. If you are interested in nominating someone else or yourself, please send a brief note to nominations(a)nanog.org. The note should include the nominee's contact details, and a brief description of why (in your opinion) the individual concerned would be a good addition to the Program Committee. The Steering Committee will accept nominations received before the conclusion of NANOG 44 on October 14.
