What's the point of prepend communities?

Hi, Of all the ISPs that I am familiar with that have a BGP community structure usable by their peering partners and/or downstream customers, among other things, they allow the customer to signal the ISP to prepend their own AS to the as-path of a particular prefix announcement. What functionality does a provider prepend support that is otherwise lost in the absence of such a feature, but all the while, the customer would be able to prepend their own AS to the same prefix announcement anyway? Is this a relic from before ISPs allowed for local preference adjustment, or is there actually a use case for this? Thanks!

Physical Layer fiber Software Tools?

I am hoping someone could help me out with some suggestions for any software that is available, for individuals that are doing physical layer wiring in a data center? The idea is the technician is performing the fiber runs from say RACK 111 router AAA port 1/1/1 to RACK 222 router BBB port 1/1/1 The fiber is connected to a LIU in the TOP of the rack, and then will require various cross connects to get to the other rack. If the various racks and LIU's are pre-populated into the software, and then a standard for the fiber labels is also installed ahead of time into the software tool. The technician has a tablet or laptop to enter the data, and then it will print out a cable label based on the info entered into the tool. The back-end data base is updated for each fiber so the complete path is known. This way its a one step process. Maybe my description of this is readily available or have other companies developed a custom software tool to achieve this? Appreciate any feedback.

Ping a Comcast Business DNS Admin?

I'm hoping a Comcast engineer can clear something up for me: If I recall correctly siteprotect.com is used by Comcast Business hosting. We have a mutual customer who has their domain NS pointed at ADNS.CS.SITEPROTECT.COM and BDNS.CS.SITEPROTECT.COM and those servers resolve their domain properly, but as of two weeks ago I no longer have the option to edit the customer's zone when signing in to businessclass.comcast.net. Phone reps have said "we don't manage you DNS" or "NetSol is their registrar", or even "Hmm...you're right, there's something wrong, but I don't know what's going on". On top of all of that, Comcast told this mutual customer to update their DNS records because they are being migrated to Office 365. But the customer can't access it to edit it. Large amount of TCP resets today

We are seeing a large number of tcp reset alerts today with a source AS of GOOGLE (15169), AMAZON-02 (16509), APPLE (714), APPLE-AUSTIN (6185), FACEBOOK (32934) and AKAMAI-ASN1 (20940). Google DNS intermittent ServFail for Disney subdomain

Hi Nanog, I am principal network engineer for sister-studio to Disney Studios. They have been struggling with DNS issues since Thursday 12th October. By all accounts it appears as though *some* of the Google DNS resolvers cannot reach the authoritative nameservers for "studio.disney.com". This is causing ~20-30% of all DNS requests against Google Public DNS 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4 to fail for requests in this subdomain. The name servers reside in 153.7.233.0/24. Might someone be able to *connect me* with someone at Google to assist my poor colleagues who are banging their heads against a brick wall here. Thank you, David
