Will someone please fix com-priv(a)psi.com so this traffic can be redirected to a more appropriate list... @Home told me they require peers to be at three exchange points, except @Home was only at three exchange points (mae-east, west, and sprint) at the time. I told Cathy thanks, and to let me know when they were at some more exchange points we had in common to meet their own list of peering requirements (cix or chicago whenever Ameritech's sales force gets around to bringing up our circuit). >This is all very interesting information. A FDDI exchange point will allow anyone to point default at anyone else without any explicit BGP peering or FDDI configuration, but an ATM NAP requires a permanent virtual circuit to be established between two peers before traffic can flow and this requires the consent of both peers. Therefore, on an ATM NAP, you are not subject to default-abuse by non-peers. --Kent

Until this happens there would be no unwanted traffic. -d

Its not a major issue really, as this can easily be accomplished with policy filters, which is how we do it. I used to believe this too, and am quite familiar with the MIBs as a result. But then there is TI scripting, and it made life much simpler (at least, it made wfIpBaseRtEntry.7.* much easier to type). We have actually seen quite a bit of improvement (and i'll be the first to admit, there was a lot of room for it). However, i'm not sure i agree with your statement about 'full routing'. We are running BGP, RIP, and OSPF all here, in various nodes, without serious problems. This came up at NANOG, and, yes, while with ATM the PVCs bring the automatic ability of shielding one from unwanted traffic from a "non-peer", a provider **could** point default at one of his peers. There is nothing that can be done at the L2 level. We could, again as mentioned at NANOG, bring down the PVC upon the request of only one of the peers, ending the default situation, but this is reactive, and requires that the default scenario still be detected... This is about group operations, and this _is_ the operations group! At least the discussion need to start and end here, so that everyone knowns what is going on. Although, technical details discussion could be a new separate list. Anyway, I'd be very happy if Daniel could help us figure out a way to be self-sustaining. If the CIX wanted to offer a RIPE-style of services, I'd be interested in participating! I think that the CIX bylaws and member agreement would need a few changes, but other than that, it seems positioned to take the role.
