Massive Price Increase for X-conns at Telehouse Chelsea, NYC

Is anyone else affected by a massive price increase for x-conns by Telehouse Chelsea? When we moved in a few years ago they were asking 150$, it changed to 200$ and now we are asked to pay 260$. That's 73% more. I don't think inflation is that high in the United states. I get the impression that they feel comfortable enough to abuse their position. When we complained they simply said 'you may consider to cancel the contract'. Of course they don't provide any better service, in fact, the service quality is commonly indirectly proportional to the price at most 'big names'. #rant I suggest to anyone considering to buy colocation space in NYC (or elsewhere) not to choose Telehouse, unlike a few years ago. -- Fredy Kuenzler Init7 (Switzerland) Ltd.

Deploying IPv6 XLAT64

Looking at getting into IPv6 here ourselves... one of the big hold ups has been the dual stacking. Can anyone recommend a quality, not ridiculously convoluted to setup, XLAT64 translator that we could run in our network to take the IPv6 to an IPv4 address when the remote server doesn't have 6 capability?

US based networks suffering from RPKI misconfigurations

Hi, the tables bellow show the number of IPv4 and IPv6 blocks per ASN that are unreachable in an RPKI route origin validating (ROV) environment (this list is filtered for US ASNs based on RIPEstat ASN data). Affected networks might soon (by the end of the year) loose the ability to talk to Cloudflare networks since they plan to deploy ROV. You can use the RPKI validator https://rpki-validator.ripe.net/bgp-preview or https://bgp.he.net (prefix view) to find the specific affected prefixes for a given ASN. Post Hurricane Irma and Maria Mitigation Assessment Team Report

Today, FEMA published its Mitigation Assessment Team Report on the Hurricanes Irma and Maria impact on buildings, critical faciltiies, solar panels and other construction issues. Recommendation USVI-1a: USVI should adopt the latest hazard-resistant building codes and standards on a regular update cycle. Recommendation USVI-8: DPNR should consider hiring additional code enforcement staff. Recommendation USVI-14b: Homeowners should consider protecting the glazed window and door systems on their existing homes. Recommendation USVI-19: Develop and support a wind retrofit programs across USVI. Recommendation USVI-34a: Add specific design criteria for ground-mounted PV solar arrays and connections to ASCE 7-22 and reference them in other select codes. FEMA P-2021 | Mitigation Assessment Team Report: Hurricanes Irma and Maria in the U.S. Virgin Islands https://www.fema.gov/media-library/assets/documents/170486 Building Performance Observations, Recommendations, and Technical Guidance. In response to a request for technical support from the Federal Emergency Management (FEMA) Joint Field Office in St. Croix, FEMA’s Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration’s (FIMA) Building Science Branch deployed a Mitigation Assessment Team (MAT) composed of national and regional experts to affected areas in St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix, in October and November, 2017. The MAT was charged with evaluating damage from Hurricanes Irma and Maria, especially for buildings constructed or reconstructed after Hurricane Marilyn (1995), to identify both successful and unsuccessful mitigation techniques. This work involved: assessing the performance of residential, nonresidential, and critical facilities affected by the storms; evaluating the performance of photovoltaic (PV) facilities; investigating the effects of wind speed-up due to the islands’ topography on building performance; and meeting with residents and local officials to better understand what transpired during and after the storms.
