Not press release? Since when has NANOG been relegated to press release material only... ?? We used to troubleshoot *real time* via this.. (nanog). Have we gone to the realm of suits ? (And *you* should know.... Todd, You were there through most of it...) I guess I need to get it in my head that NANOG list has become relegated to the world of newspapers and public releases.... :( Any ways, looks like this is some type of cut that is killing Chicago *southbound* circuits.. (Hence your perspective) We have techs (trying) to nail it down... We have McCleod USA stating several circuits dropped from out of Chicago... all at once... (DS3-OC3) More than just data...... Like like something broke in south Chicago. Everyone is turning on the T-birds... :\ Pardon my jump. I was adrenaline rushed, as I have *several* big circuits out of Chicago.... See ya. Now where is that Tbird ..... :\

Latest estimate: Internet Routing table / Memory needed

I haven't really seen anything on this in a while, in terms of an up to date figure. Here is what our internet border router reports (with full from UUnet and Digex, and a few more (^3561$) directly from CW): 58909 network entries (116785/119858 paths) using 10448216 bytes of memory 15451 BGP path attribute entries using 1946036 bytes of memory 0 BGP route-map cache entries using 0 bytes of memory 2 BGP filter-list cache entries using 32 bytes of memory Looks like I'm burning about 12 megs. Lets say I had the whole table (~ 58/59k networks today), but only one provider. Rather than turning half our Internet feed off to see, could someone tell me how this would affect the above 'sh ip bgp summ' result from my router ?? I.e. how much memory would be burnt then ?? Best to be aware of what is now coming down on Network Solutions. The following is an excerpt from this article: http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/990325/ny_asensio_1.html The following is being issued by Asensio & Company, a member of the National Association of Securities Dealers, CRD number 31742: Investors may be buying Network Solutions, Inc.'s (Nasdaq: NSOL - news) stock believing the company possesses some market advantage, recurring income or proprietary technology that has allowed it to create, and will allow it to grow, its Internet domain name registry and registrar business. We found no reasonable basis for these beliefs. NSOL's domain name business has been and remains totally reliant on a 7-year-old U.S. federal government contract, which is expiring and will not be renewed. We believe that NSOL's management has purposely disseminated misleading information, and failed to disclose material negative information, that has led investors to believe that the expiration of this contract will be postponed or that it cannot be entirely and easily terminated. Investors have also been led to believe that even if the contract is terminated, NSOL's business value will continue to grow. These expectations are baseless and false. If their house of cards collapses too quickly it could have some serious operational impacts. New whois proxy - geektools

You can now use www.geektools.com as a proxy for command line whois queries instead of just the web interface. It is the same 'smart' whois that will automagically parse the query, and get the data from the known authoritative whois server for that tld or domain. Currently queries for about 80 tld's. We've tried to optimize and fix the code to handle the current internic.net whois goings on - including taking care of retries for stuck requests. Use www.geektools.com or whois.geektools.com. so... whois -h whois.geektools.com 'query' or whois 'query'@whois.geektools.com Enjoy!
