Early morning network maintenance 4am EDT

There was a big bounce on Internet routes about 4am EDT this morning, several hours before the plane crashed into the World Trade Center. Where any major providers or carriers doing network maintenance this morning on the east coast? I'm trying to distinguish between network problems due to maintenance and the plane crash.

This is not operational, but relates to major network service staff. There is a report from senior management of one of Akamai's competitors that the President and several execs of Akamai were on one of the aircraft which crashed into the WTC. Considering the terrorist attacks, and under the circumstances, it would only be appropriate and humane that MAPS and the ORBS offsprings cease blocking immediately, and allow the free flow of world-wide communications at least until the dust settles.
