Obviously pataroo who did only lookups by ASNs also hit the limits and they did not even program for such an event which resulted in all those segfaults. Besides that I'm even more concerned that this came as absolute surprise to me, no announcement anywhere at all, I'm on am at anuncios and there was nothing sent there about changes to whois and nothing on website and as far as I could tell it was not discussed at politicas either. And even worth you're doing these limits and providing no way to get the data by any other means then whois as your bulk whois policy is still 2 months away from being implemented - you could have aleast waited these two months! Please think about removing the limits for the next two months until bulk whois is ready! Or at the very least monitore the situation and adjust the limits (to at least 5 times what it is now probably), possibly talk to ARIN or RIPE on how they deal with data mining! -- William Leibzon Elan Communications Inc. william(a)elan.net

anyone from "Advanced DNS Group" at NetSol?

Hello, Is there a person from the "Advanced DNS Group" of Network Solutions (which aparently is the only group that can even look at data consistency problems) that is works outside 9-5 EDT window? If so, can that person please drop me email off the list? You either have some major database issues that are manifesting themselves, or your interface with the registry that runs gTLD is broken... If this person does exist, can you please drop me email off list? Thanks, Alex

Hello, If there is anyone from Network Solutions who understands result of "dig" and can not read from a script (which, unfortunately is wrong in some cases), could that person get back to me of the list, please? Pretty please? I do not want to go through yet another round of explanation with yet another customer service person that there is an inconsistency with the data returned by the web-based system and the data in GTLD-SERVERS.NET, get them to say "Ahhh, now I see, can you please include this into email and we fix this" to have someone *else* get that email and go back to the square 1. C&W to withdraw from US

According to media reports, C&W is going to withdraw from U.S. markets. No word on the of its Internet operations; the Wall Street Journal says C&W declined to say how much the new restructuring plan will cost or explain how it plans to withdraw from the U.S. because it doesn't want to weaken its negotiating position with potential buyers of assets. Although the company has £850 million in outstanding property leases in the U.S., Richard Lapthorne, the company's new chairman, said the company's net cash of 1£.62 billion means "we know we can afford the worst case." Most of C&W's U.S. revenue is derived from hosting Web sites for large companies, such as Microsoft Corp. C&W pushed into the U.S. Web-site hosting market by buying Digital Island Inc. of San Francisco and most of the assets of Exodus Communications Inc. of Santa Clara, Calif., for about $1 billion in 2001. NAT for an ISP

Hello, I would like to know if any service providers have built their access networks out using private IP space. It certainly would benefit the global IP pool but it may adversely affect users with special applications. At any rate, it sounds like good fodder for a debate. Regards, Christopher J.
