How to Host a NANOG Meeting

We have a BOF slot in Toronto to discuss the general topic meeting hosting, from the perspective of learning from past mistakes and making the organisation of future events easier, and with the additional goal of demystifying the process to those who might like to host a meeting, but don't know what's involved. If you have ever thought vaguely about hosting a NANOG meeting in your city but either assumed it would be too expensive or simply didn't know where to take your vague thoughts next, you might like to drop by and join the conversation. Feel very free to drop me a note off-list if you want to find out more. We'll be in Sheraton Hall B/C from 4pm - 5:30pm on Tuesday 6 Feb. This means we clash with the Second Coming of the Peering BOF, so apologies in advance to wbn and co. for the several hundred people that will no doubt abandon his session in order to attend this one. :-)

Hello list, Could somebody be so generous to tell me the names of the companies that are providing the free sponsored dial-up access asking users to watch the advertisements of the sponsors in special window? I know there is some of them in Ontario (in fact I've used one for some time in my life), and also think there a number of them in the US. It would even be much helpful if somebody could put the installation CD image of such service somewhere on ftp..... Just need to show how it works to one of my friends. Repair Status Au said today that the five cable systems that have been partially repaired are: Flag North Asia Loop, owned by India's Reliance Communications Ltd.; Reach North Asian Loop, owned by Hong Kong's PCCW Ltd. and Australia's Telstra Corp.; Se-Me-We3, owned by a group including Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. and France Telecom SA; and APCN and APCN2, owned by operators including China Telecom Corp. and Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom Co. A segment of Asia Netcom Corp.'s EAC cable system will be repaired today, Chan said. If you can read foreign languages, you are probably still receiving SPAM for legitimate products. Just last year I got some in Portuguese advertising a sort of "dude ranch" resort. And as far as fraud is concerned, Yahoo.com sells banner advertising to fraudulent organizations in Russia who are advertising so-called green card lottery services. The ads are fraudulent because Russian citizens are not eligible for the green card lottery. If you know about the history of Canter and Siegel on USENET you might find it rather ironic that the same scam is now advertised on Russian-language yahoo.com sites. --Michael Dillon
