Private ASNs in the wild

I just fat fingered a regex that was intented to show how many private ASNs we’re using on our network for various things. The results of the fat fingers showed that there are an astronomical number of private ASNs in the wild. I checked the CIDR report, and those ASNs are shown there in a specific Bogon ASN report, but I’m surprised that as far as I can recall, there haven’t been any efforts made by the good netizens around these parts to bring awareness to this issue. Do we feel that it’s not that big of a deal? Have we not really been paying attention? Some other reason this seems to be a rather muted topic?

Comcast Support

I hate to use NANOG for this, but support has now ended a chat with me twice without fixing anything, they just kicked me off. I'm not getting an IPv6 address on the Comcast provided cable modem/router. I'm not getting a PD. My machines thus have no IPv6. I've hard reset my router 4 times while working with Comcast, and I've been told to do things like switch to a static IPv4 address, which shows a level of clue that is scary. And before that they were convinced it was a wireless problem even though I have a wired connection, and told them that multiple times. I've wasted two hours with Comcast today, and even when I asked for escalation I got nothing. Just hung up on. It's honestly the worst customer support I've ever received. I don't think I ever got them to understand the difference between IPv4 and IPv6.

I’m wondering if someone has any contacts at Netgear they would be willing to forward some information to. Its certainly possible that there is a switch between two routers and hence a link down event on one side is not visible to the other side. So, you run some sort of an OAM protocol on the two routers so that they can detect link flaps/failures. How will this happen in SDN networks where there is no control plane on the routers. Will the routers be sending a state of all their links to a central controller who will then detect that a link has gone down. This just doesnt sound good. I am presuming that some sort of "control plane" will always be required. Any pointers here? Is there any other reason other than link events for which we would need a control plane on the routers in SDN? Thanks, Glen

Someone/something is announcing a /32 from our IP space into comcast from a private ASN. Could someone from comcast help at least provide me some more information off-list? I have a customer that heavily uses Microsoft Office 365. It's hosted. All the data I see about usage per user appears theoretical. In that the formulas assume people are taking turns using the bandwidth as if there is a patient line of packets at the Internet gas pump. Nobody is clicking at the same time. We all know that is not the real world. Does anyone have any experience with Office 365 hosted that can tell me the practical bandwidth allocation (NOT in KB per month, but in megabits/sec) for 100 users (during normal work hours) needs to be available ?
