Voip encryption

Hi - I have a PCIDSs requirement to encrypt VoIP over a 3rd party VPLS network. Has anyone dealt with this. I'd really not use VPN's over the VPLS so am looking at hardware WAN encrypters. Any guidance appreciated. Thanks Simon

Consumer products with baked-in VLAN tagging

Hi folks, As you may know if you've played around with recent Apple Airports (Express at least) in bridge mode with "guest network" turned on, they seem to know about 802.1q and have fairly reasonable or at least defensible behavior out of the box - that is to say they move the "native" SSID as untagged, and the "guest" SSID tagged 802.1q VLAN 1003. This behavior does not appear to be field-modifyable. So, who else has seen this sort of behavior from other consumer devices, running mixed tagged/untagged VLANs in a non-reconfigurable way? I'd be grateful for any and all pointers. Thanks, -r

Fixing Google geolocation screwups

A friend of mine lives in Alabama and has business service from at&t. But Google thinks he's in France. We've checked for various possibilities of VPNs and proxies and such, and it's pretty clear that the Goog's geolocation for addresses around 99.106.185.0/24 is screwed up. Bing and other services correctly find him in Alabama. Poking around I see lots of advice about how to use Google's geolocation data, but nothing on how to update it. Anyone know the secret? Sorry for a little bit off topic. This email is to inform you a new open source hardware for networking innovation called ONetSwitch. It is an all-programmable networking platform combining ARM and FPGA in a 17cm*13cm area (notebook size) for testing and verifying research idea related to networking. Different from previous FPGA develop board like NetFPGA/Xilinx PCIe board, host PC is not required any more for ONetSwitch, and it is smaller, cheaper, and more power efficient. and more flexible. We have launched the ONetSwitch project on Kickstarter.com weeks ago. You can get an abstract from the short video, which will not take you long to get our idea :-) https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/onetswitch/onetswitch-open-source-hard… We had a paper at ONS 2014 presenting the preliminary design of ONetSwitch (https://www.usenix.org/system/files/conference/ons2014/ons2014-paper-hu_che…) and a demo at SIGCOMM'14 setting a data center testbed on only desktop using ONetSwitch (http://nskeylab.xjtu.edu.cn/people/huc/Pub/DesktopDC_2014.pdf) In the new version now at kickstarter, we add further physical support on 802.11 AC, mSATA, which suits for more scenarios. Also, we have open source ref. design and supporting wiki available at github (https://github.com/MeshSr/wiki/wiki/REF-OpenFlowSwitch-HWFT) The processing logic can be modified in both software (ARM) and hardware (FPGA) to fit your own needs. Although it is currently highlighted mainly on SDN and DCN, we aim to provide the research community a way to set their testbeds for any networking innovations easily. Low Cost CWDM or DWDM

What vendors do you recommend for low cost CWDM / DWDM gear? Assume you have a fiber ring of 50 miles of fiber, and want to have POPs evenly spaced around the ring that you want to jump on and off of. Assume you only have 2 fiber strands to work with, but can obtain two more at an additional cost. Does 2 vs 4 fibers make a difference? The goal is to be able to offer multiple 10G connections to clients on the ring. All ethernet/wave no support for legacy SONET needed. How do you decide between CWDM vs DWDM? There are so many manufacturers that make transport gear I do not even know where to begin. Is there a guide to navigating through the big optical transport vendors? There are over 20 of them, and they all seem to do the same thing on paper.

Hello Today March 31 , 2015 GMT +0200 1030am-4pm Turkey has suffered a major power outage impacting nearly 70M people. I am writing a blog post about power outage vs impact to network usage. I am looking for as much as useful network usage information possible related to Turkey.
