Dear NANOG 59 Attendees: Welcome to NANOG 59! Hosted by PhoenixNAP, at the Sheraton Wild Horse Hotel in Phoenix, Arizona. We are expecting a strong attendance at the meeting; with nearly 618 individuals registered, 190 have indicated they are attending a NANOG meeting for the first time. This message contains information and brief reminders to help you prepare for the NANOG meeting. *Meeting Information* The complete NANOG 59 agenda <http://www.nanog.org/meetings/nanog59/agenda>is available on the NANOG 59 website <http://www.nanog.org/meetings/nanog59/home>, along with the NANOG meeting hotel space layout<http://www.nanog.org/sites/default/files/sites/default/files/meetings_map_N…>. Upon checking in at Registration, an abbreviated paper copy of the agenda will be provided with your name badge. In addition to all of the meeting activities, you can also find information on local attractions<http://www.nanog.org/meetings/nanog59/inandaround> . *Meeting Check-in * Meeting registration & check-in will be held at the Akimel Foyer, located on the main floor of the hotel. When you arrive at the meeting, please check-in at the NANOG Registration Desk to pick up your name badge, T-shirt, attendee gifts and important handouts. The registration desk will be open during the following hours: - Sunday 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. - Monday 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Tuesday 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Wednesday 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. *Membership and Sponsorship Table* Beginning on Monday morning, committee members will be available during breaks to answer your Membership and Sponsorship questions. The Membership and Sponsorship table is located near the registration area. *Community Meeting* We invite you to attend and participate in the NANOG Community Meeting on Monday, at 4:00 p.m. in the Akimel Ballroom. The Community Meeting, hosted by the NANOG Board, will provide an opportunity to hear from those running for the 2013 Board of Directors open positions. *Attendee Breakfast* In the Akimel Foyer / Mesquite Terrace, - Welcome Refreshments will be served on Monday 8:00-10:30 a.m. and, - Power Breakfast will be served Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30-9:30 a.m. *Welcome Lunch and Newcomers Lunch* The Monday Welcome Lunch, open to all attendees will be in the Mesquite Terrace at 12:00 p.m. This is a great time to begin the ever famous, NANOG hallway conversations. If this is your first NANOG meeting, you are encouraged to attend the Monday Newcomers Lunch with other NANOGers (meet and greet the NANOG community and start socializing) at 12:00 p.m. in the Komatke A,B,C Ballroom (main floor). *Members Breakfast* The Members Breakfast will be held on Wednesday at 8:30am in the Komatke A,B,C room and is open to NANOG Members. Tuesday: - 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. the ever famous NANOG Beer n’ Gear will be held at the Komatke D,E,F,G Ballroom. - 8:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. - BTI Systems and Layer42 will continue evening activities in the Mesquite Terrace, Sheraton Wild Horse Property Wednesday: - 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m – ARIN will begin the evening with the standard Fall Happy Hour social in the Akimel Patio, Sheraton Wild Horse Property. - 7:15 – 10:30 p.m. GPF will close out NANOG 59 with a social that includes the opportunity to drive a high performance racing car at the Bonduant School of High Performance Driving. Wireless Network(s) <http://www.nanog.org/meetings/nanog59/internet> Hotel Guest Room Internet access is also offered free of charge. Access instructions will be provided upon check-in at the hotel. All, The final agenda for our meeting next week has been published at http://www.nanog.org/meetings/nanog59/agenda Please note that the program begins at 10AM on Monday and the tutorials can now be found on Tuesday morning. I hope you all share the excitement that I do for this great program. For newcomers, we'll host a welcome lunch on Monday at noon. Even if you're an old timer, we'd love to have you at this lunch to help introduce this potentially record-breaking crowd (we sit at 594 registered attendees at this moment) to NANOG and help them get the most of their time at the meeting. RIPE Atlas Measurement Probe Reminder

Hello NANOG Attendees, I hope you had a great time at NANOG, I certainly did. Thanks again to the great sponsors! We handed out almost 200 RIPE Atlas measurement probes at NANOG 58, and so far we have received registration information from around 50 participants. We wanted email and urge everyone who received a RIPE Atlas measurement probe to please go to http://tinyurl.com/ripeatlas and register your Atlas measurement probe. Once the Atlas measurement probe is registered, you can plug it in and start gathering data! RIPE will love getting this data – there are over 20 States which have 0-1 probes. Our first NANOG visit to New Orleans was wonderful. It was great to see new faces at NANOG and to see so many who made a return visit. R & E BoF on Wednesday?

I know that there are some R&E/Higher Ed attendees in our midst at NANOG 58, and some folks have already approached me to talk about a possible informal BoF for the R&E community (open to all, of course). I think we may be able to schedule something on Wednesday, and I will discuss it with the NANOG folks. The main meta-topic will be to brainstorm ways in which the R&E community can utilize NANOG and other conferences to make up for the reduction in Joint Techs meetings. We can also discuss other, more technical, topics that are burning in our arena right now.
