Visualizing BGP paths

I have been working on a project to better illustrate for our manages the provider path data takes when it flows from one of our customers to our datacenter. I have tried to use trace routes to illustrate the number of hops data takes, but when I try to show many sources on one page, it gets fairly messy quickly. I am also less concerned with the number of hops, and more concerned with the number of providers. Does anyone know of a toolset that will take a list of source IP's and a destination IP and show graphically which as numbers the packets need to traverse to reach our datacenter? I am thinking of something like this: http://www.robtex.com/as/as19629.html#graph, but instead of all the upstreams it would show something like AS16150 -> AS1239 -> AS209 -> AS19629. Dylan Ebner

I use BGPLay for showing our connected status, but it doesn't let me put in a source IP/AS and a destination IP/AS. BGPlay is very helpful though. All, Thanks to all who responded and provided useful feedback. We had an overwhelmingly positive response. We have incorporated a bunch of comments into the new version of the bot that is currently live. Some of the most visible changes are: - added minimal support for ping and traceroute from the bot interface - added a new aslookup command to provide a quick conversion of AS numbers to names and names to as numbers - added a show ip bgp view command to list possible views that can be queried - added support for cisco shortcuts - IPv6 bgp views should be available soon as well. - the jabber version of the bot was moved to a new server. The new versions of the bots are currently live at: AIM: bgpbotz Jabber: bgpbotz(a)jabber.research.merit.edu We would be happy to add more BGP views to the bot if anyone is willing to provide us with a BGP feed. So far we have only received 1 BGP feed offer. NANOG Program Committee Nominations open September 08 2009

Folks, Following up on Joe's message, I wanted to remind folks that we are approaching the annual NANOG election and appointment time, and to ask you to consider nominating qualified folks for the NANOG Program Committee. The Program Committee is a group of sixteen individuals from the NANOG community who together are responsible for the solicitation and selection of material for NANOG meeting Programs. A new Program Committee will be selected by the Steering Committee after the election in October. Eight positions are to be filled. The currently-serving Program Committee members whose terms are expiring are Joel Jaeggli, Rodney Joffe, Sylvie LaPerriere, Kevin Oberman, Lane Patterson, Ren Provo, Josh Snowhorn and Todd Underwood. Furthermore, Joel, Ren, Josh and Todd have all served two consecutive terms so per the charter, they cannot be considered for another Program Committee appointment until October 2010.
