7206 NPE-G2 with 4 full table feeds

Hi I have an application where I have a 7206 with NPE-G2 (1G RAM) that currently has a full table from an eBGP peer and a full table from a co-located IBGP peer. I want to mesh this guy to two other IBGP peers that will also send their full tables. There is roughly 400Mbps (adding both direction) with an OSPF process (<30 routes) and an ISIS process (<20 routes). I haven't been very successful at finding real life BGP scaling for this platform and was hoping that someone out there may be doing something similar (4 x full table feeds with ~400Mbps) and can provide feedback on performance and/or stability. I have soft reconfig inbound enabled on the current two feeds, I assume that this will make a difference in this application with regards to available memory for all 4 feeds? Thanks in advance Eric

Verisign Internet Defence Network

Heyo, So, I asked to look into the viability and usefullness of the "Verisign Internet Defence Network" service. I don't claim to be any kind of expert in DDoS mitigation, but some of the claims made by the product descriptions seem suspect to me. it claims to be "Carrier-agnostic and ISP-neutral", yet "When an event is detected, Verisign will work with the customer to redirect Internet traffic destined for the protected service to a Verisign Internet Defense Network site." anyone here have any comments on how this works, and how effective it will be vs. dealing directly with your upstream providers and getting them to assist in shutting down the attack? -- Jim Mercer jim(a)reptiles.org +1 416 410-5633 You are more likely to be arrested as a terrorist than you are to be blown up by one. -- Dianora

Deploying IPv6 globally

Many North American based organizations operate with their ARIN issued BGP AS distributed globally. When I discussed obtaining IPv6 space from ARIN a few years ago, they told me to submit an individual request for each of my sites (and they'd issue a /48 or larger based on the site). This is the process I've been following, until now, for my North American sites... My question is, has anyone started deploying ARIN IP space to their global offices? If so, how are you registering those sites with ARIN? Or did they tell you something else? Thanks -C

Cablevision's company line on IPv6 to the home

I just got off the phone with a level 1 tech support guy about an issue with my parents Cablevision/Optimum Online service and decided to ask the fellow if there's any official company news about IPv6 being in the works. His comments were that there is a test coming up (he was referring to World IPv6 Day), though he admitted that Cablevision is choosing not to participate in the "test" because they want to wait to see that IPv6 actually works without problems before they turn it on. He said it with a tone that seemed to express that the World IPv6 Day "test" is an irresponsible diversion. I politely and without any noticeable condescension (I believe) told him "that's what I expected" and bid him adieu. It's neat how they're going to skip that irresponsible testing phase and just turn it on one day and it's going to work perfectly. And I wonder how they'll know when IPv6 is done. Maybe is has one of those things that frozen turkeys have, that pops out when it's done. I've got my HE tunnels up and running on a Mikrotik hardware on the little networks I manage. I can't wait for IPv6 Day. So someone on the list please let Cablevision/Optonline know when you've finished IPv6. I'm sure they'd appreciate it. Greg
