Colleagues: A short NANOG 54 reminder and update. NANOG 54 will be held in San Diego, CA February 5 - 8, 2012. NANOG 54 will begin with tutorials starting early Sunday afternoon, February 5. The meeting will adjourn approximately 12 noon on Wednesday, February 8. Thank you to our NANOG 54 Speakers and to the NANOG Program Committee. Attendees are sure to enjoy another fantastic program! The posted agenda continues to be updated, however, the largest part of the NANOG 54 program is now posted. NANOG 54 Hotel Update

Dear NANOG Community, On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am happy to share some wonderful news regarding hotel accommodations for our NANOG 54 meeting in San Diego. The hotel has been undergoing renovations and recently completed remodeling of all its guest rooms and meeting space. The last phase of the hotel remodel will include the main lobby, which they plan to complete before our meeting. The Board has been working closely with the hotel to ensure the remodel will have no effect on NANOG 54, scheduled for February 5 - 8, 2012. As a result of our conversations, the hotel has agreed to reduce the individual guest room rate from $199 +tax/ night to $169 + tax/night. For reservations already made, the hotel will make an adjustment to your daily rate, reflecting the new NANOG 54 rate. In addition, if you make your reservation by January 4th, 2012, you will be entered into a drawing to win 10,000 Starwood Preferred Guest points! The Communications Committee is responsible for the administration and minimal moderation of the NANOG list, nanog(a)nanog.org, Also, the committee is responsible for the administration of other mailing lists and other forms of electronic communications among the NANOG community. The NANOG Board is seeking volunteers who are, or willing to become, members and are willing to serve on the Communications Committee. Program Committee Appointments Announcement

The Board has completed the Program Committee selection process. This year, eighteen members submitted their candidacies for eight available positions. We want to thank each and every one of them for considering this important service to our community and encourage them to try for the next selection cycle. We are pleased to announce the two-year term appointment of Jim Cowie, Igor Gashinsky, Greg Hankins, Manish Karir, Mohit Lad, Dani Roisman, Michael Sinatra and Tony Tauber to the Program Committee. We also want to thank and recognize the contribution of Cathy Aronson, Barry Greene, Chris Morrow and Sonia Sakovich for their service on the 2009-2011 Program Committtees. In the coming weeks, the new Program Committee will hold its first meeting and select a Chair and a Vice-Chair. Do not miss out. - Late Registration starting October 4, 2011 (non-member $600, member $575, student $100) - On-Site Registration starting October 9, 2011 (non-member $675, member $650, student $100) - Submit your lightning talk proposal at http://pc.nanog.org starting October 3, 2011. Lightning Talks: A lightning talk is a very short presentation or speech by any attendee on any topic relevant to the NANOG audience. These are limited to ten minutes; this will be strictly enforced. - topic that are timely, interesting, or even a crackpot idea you want to share, we encourage you to consider presenting it. The Program Committee will vote on all Lightning Talk submissions onsite at the meeting, and a submitter will be notified about his or her submission one day prior to the scheduled talk time.
