The Board has completed the Program Committee selection process. This year, eighteen members submitted their candidacies for eight available positions. We want to thank each and every one of them for considering this important service to our community and encourage them to try for the next selection cycle. We are pleased to announce the two-year term appointment of Jim Cowie, Igor Gashinsky, Greg Hankins, Manish Karir, Mohit Lad, Dani Roisman, Michael Sinatra and Tony Tauber to the Program Committee. We also want to thank and recognize the contribution of Cathy Aronson, Barry Greene, Chris Morrow and Sonia Sakovich for their service on the 2009-2011 Program Committtees. In the coming weeks, the new Program Committee will hold its first meeting and select a Chair and a Vice-Chair. Do not miss out. - Late Registration starting October 4, 2011 (non-member $600, member $575, student $100) - On-Site Registration starting October 9, 2011 (non-member $675, member $650, student $100) - Submit your lightning talk proposal at http://pc.nanog.org starting October 3, 2011. Lightning Talks: A lightning talk is a very short presentation or speech by any attendee on any topic relevant to the NANOG audience. These are limited to ten minutes; this will be strictly enforced. - topic that are timely, interesting, or even a crackpot idea you want to share, we encourage you to consider presenting it. The Program Committee will vote on all Lightning Talk submissions onsite at the meeting, and a submitter will be notified about his or her submission one day prior to the scheduled talk time. PC Nominations Reminder to NANOG Announce

Hey Folks, Just a reminder that nominations for the Program Committee are open. The PC is a group of sixteen individuals from the NANOG community who together are responsible for the NANOG program. The folks we choose will shape the future of NANOG. With that in mind, I encourage you to self-nominate or nominate a member of the community who you feel has energy and ideas about how the NANOG meetings can improve and evolve. And for those who haven't served on the PC, it is a great to work with our community and it is a very rewarding experience. NANOG has a great tradition; please consider contributing to it as part of the Program Committee. So if you want to self-nominate or if you want to nominate someone else, send your nomination to nominations(a)nanog.org. If you are nominating another person, please provide that person's name and email address. If you are nominating yourself, please provide a Statement of Intent and a Biography, each with a suggested limit of 150 words. Colleagues: A short NANOG 53 reminder and update. NANOG 53 will be held in Philadelphia, PA on* October 9-12, 2011*. NANOG 53 will begin with tutorials starting early Sunday afternoon, October 9th. The meeting will adjourn approximately 12 noon on Wednesday, October 12th. Thank you to our NANOG 53 Speakers and to the NANOG Program Committee. Attendees are sure to enjoy another fantastic program. The posted agenda continues to be updated, however, the NANOG 53 program is expected to remain as posted! NANOG Voting Dates

Everyone, I would like to remind everyone about some important dates that are coming up: * September 12, 2011 begins the nomination process for Program Committee Candidates. * September 13, 2011 the nomination process for the Board closes. As a reminder, the Program Committee is a group of sixteen individuals from the NANOG community who together are responsible for the solicitation and selection of material for NANOG meeting programs. Per the NewNOG bylaws, eligible candidates each will serve a two-year term. To be eligible to be appointed as a member of the Program Committee, an individual must have attended one NANOG conference within the prior calendar year (12 months) and be a member in good standing. Broad technical knowledge of Internet operations and familiarity with NANOG meetings are useful attributes. Having constructive opinions and ideas about how NANOG meetings might be improved is of high value. A willingness to recruit presentations for each meeting is required. Please send nominations to nominations(a)nanog.org. If you are nominating another person, please provide that person's name and email address. Amendments to the NANOG Bylaws

NANOG members (and other interested people), The NANOG bylaws provide an opportunity each year to amend them, if needed. Bylaw amendments may be enacted by a majority vote of eligible voters (in other words, NANOG Members), during NANOG's annual election. The election is scheduled to take place during NANOG 53, from October 9-11, with voting open to all NANOG members (http://www.nanog.org/membership_main.html) The current bylaws are posted at http://www.nanog.org/governance/documents/By-Laws_20110104.pdf An amendment may be put on the ballot by the Board of Directors or by petition. A petition must be signed by at least 30 eligible voters, or 1 percent of eligible voters, whichever is greater. In addition, the Board had the power to make bylaw amendments during NANOG's first year as an independent corporation, subject to ratification by the voters in the next election. The Board used that procedure to amend the bylaws and institute the current membership structure, so that amendment will now need to be accepted or rejected by the membership. Accordingly, there will be a proposal on the ballot to ratify the current membership structure (Section 5 of the bylaws). The board has also discussed submitting a proposal to modify the committee structure called for in the bylaws (Section 9), to reflect that some of the committee functions are now being handled by staff. Any other changes people want to suggest may be discussed on the nanog-futures(a)nanog.org mailing list. Anybody wishing to put a bylaw amendment on the ballot without board action may do so by submitting a petition to nominations(a)nanog.org no later than September 26. NANOG Program Committee still reviewing submissions

NANOG'ers, On Thursday, September 1st, the NANOG Program Committee will meet to review submissions for NANOG 53. In an effort to get a topic list out to the community as early as possible, we do need to have all abstracts and slide submissions in as soon as possible. A quick review of the PC tool indicates we can continue to receive additional content for review and consideration for presentation at NANOG 53 in Philadelphia. Please submit your work ASAP!
