NANOG Website Redesign Project

Greetings NANOG community, NANOG is in the process of completely redeveloping its website (http://www.nanog.org) and is looking for feedback from the community and NANOG members. One of the primary goals of the redesign is to present a clean, yet functional and up to date website, improving delivery of information to NANOG members and sponsors, as well as providing attraction to potential new members and sponsors. Additionally, a mobile-compatible version of the website with access to the same up to date information that the full website offers is another goal of ours. We have a long list of features that have been discussed within the various Committee and Board meetings. We however, want to make sure we hear more from the community, as our goal is to serve your needs. If you have a wish list item (or items)?, or thoughts about what works well on current site and what we need to make sure to improve, please send your opinions to us. We've set up a special email address where you can directly contact the folks working on the website re-design project. The address is CommunityFeedback(a)nanog.org. We're hoping to launch the website prior to the new year, so the sooner you get those great ideas to us, the sooner we can move the project forward. Call for Volunteers -- NANOG Education Committee

The first copy ran into a mail filtering issue and didn't go out to most of the list) At the Vancouver meeting in June, I presented a preliminary proposal for a NANOG education initiative, which would put together a NANOG-created educational program for junior (and possibly more advanced) network operators. There was broad support from the community, and now it's time to refine the idea and turn it into something that can be implemented. We are seeking volunteers to join the Education Committee and work on the final proposal and its implementation. Among the issues that need to be decided are: - What format should the classes have? - What subject matter should they cover, and what should the curriculum be? - Who should be teaching them -- volunteers from the community or paid instructors? - Where should the classes be taught? At NANOG venues before, after, or during the conferences? At independent sites at non-conference times? - Cost structures: What should the classes cost and what will be included? - Other sources of financial support: Tuition? Sponsorships? Donations? Subsidies from the NANOG conferences? - And all sorts of other issues The expected commitment from members of the Education Committee will be as follows: - Attend bi-weekly conference calls - Research issues as needed, and provide feedback to the group The goal will be to have a reasonably solid proposal in time for the October NANOG meeting, and a final proposal in time for the February meeting. Following our August 4 posting ‘‘Announcing the October 2012 NANOG Elections’ which provided a preview into our election process, we are now pleased to open the Call for Board Member Nominations for the three vacant positions on the Board of Directors. The nomination period starts August 20 and closes October 1, 2012 at 23:59 Pacific Standard Time. If you are nominating another person, please send that person's name and email address to nominations(a)nanog.org and we will contact them to acknowledge their willingness to stand and will ask them to submit their Declaration of Candidacy Form (Doc)<http://www.nanog.org/governance/elections/2012elections/2012_Declaration_of…>. Term: Two years. Maximum of two consecutive terms. Accountability The Board of Directors are collectively accountable to the community, sponsors and other stakeholders. They are accountable for NANOG’s performance in relation to its mission and strategic objectives and for the effective stewardship of financial and human resources. Authority Individual board members have no authority to approve actions by NANOG, to direct staff, or to speak on behalf for NANOG, unless given such authority by the board. Responsibility Board members are responsible for acting in the best long-term interests of the organization and its community and will bring to the task of informed decision-making, a broad knowledge and an inclusive perspective. NANOG 56 - Dallas, TX: Call For Presentations

NANOG Community, After a great NANOG in Vancouver, BC, the survey results are in from 55 and we are already assembling a world-class program for NANOG 56. The North American Network Operators' Group (NANOG) will hold its 56th meeting in Dallas, TX on October 21 - 23, 2012 and join with ARIN on October 24, 2012. Terremark, a Verzion company, will be our host for NANOG 56. The NANOG Program Committee is now seeking proposals for presentations, panels, tutorials, tracks sessions, and keynote materials for the NANOG 56 program. We invite presentations highlighting issues relating to technology already deployed or soon-to-be deployed in the Internet. Vendors are encouraged to work with operators to present real-world deployment experiences with the vendor's products and interoperability. The call for Board members nominations will be from August 20 to October 1 and for committee members from Sept 17 to October 23. We wanted to provide you now with the election process preview. NANOG 55 Survey Highlights and Upcoming NANOG 56/ARIN XXX

NANOG Colleagues, NANOG 55 Attendees, We hope you are having a great Summer. We are already hard at work preparing for NANOG 56/ARIN XXX in Dallas. Take a moment now to register for the conference and book your hotel room at http://www.nanog.org/meetings/nanog56/nanog56_registration.html We had 525 registrants in Vancouver last June and I want to share the surveys highlights. The survey participation rate was 14%. We are thankful for your answers as knowing your preferences increases the likelihood of planning future 'awesome' events for you. Highlights: * Your top 3 reasons to attend NANOG are 1) network with colleague 2) the agenda (program) quality and content 3) tutorials. Closely followed by 4) socials, 5) keynotes and 6) location. * You rated the quality of our speakers, the quality of the technical information presented and the technical relevance of topics as either 'excellent' or 'very good'. * You are generally not commenting about the NANOG conference on social media platforms during the event. * 78% of attendees were able to successfully associate to the wireless network on their first attempt * You thought the Westin was great for its location, its setting and its amenities (nice to know for future picks!) * You come to NANOG to meet new people, socially interact with colleagues and learn. * You generally are not a subscriber to our mailing lists: nanog@, nanog-announce@, nanog-futures@ First-Time attendees enjoyed their NANOG experience and are hopeful that they will be able to return to future meetings. Some are even planning to bring along colleagues. Comments for speakers were really appreciated. We shared with those presenting, thereby helping speakers with future presentations and communicating attendees' expectations with respect to presentation content and its delivery. The Food & Beverage (F&B) comments were great. You are generally very pleased with the quality and the variety. We note that your level of satisfaction increases if you are continuously caffeinated or hydrated during the day and if offered plenty of beer/wine/spirits/sodas during the evenings. We took good note of your suggestions and look for them at NANOG 56. Special thanks for embracing (ie not complaining) our 'green options' : favouring large dispensers over individual plastic bottles or cans saves us lots of money and reduces our environmental footprint. Announcing a Monday to Wednesday NANOG Program Starting at NANOG 57 (Feb 2013)

Colleagues, At our NANOG 55 Community meeting Dave Temkin presented the PC proposal to move our Conference Program to a Monday-to-Wednesday format. Originating from the community, this proposal was developed and refined in the last year using the conference surveys. We surveyed you one last time at NANOG 55. The majority spoke in favour and the Board approved this change on June 22. I am pleased to announce that starting in February 2013, at NANOG 57 Orlando, the NANOG Conference program will : - start Monday morning with Tutorials; - have the Keynote kick off the Plenary after Monday's lunch; - add a standing Policy Track programmed by ARIN; - move the Peering Track to Wednesday afternoon. The net result will provide a Conference Program with 10% more content: +15 min of General Session and +90 min of Unique Track. On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Nate Davis and John Curran (ARIN partners), Betty Burke (Executive Director), Dave Temkin (PC Chair), Greg Dendy (PC VIce-Chair) and each and every PC member (Nina, Jim, Tom, Ryan, Kevin, Igor, Greg H, Manish, Mohit, David, Dani, Tom, Michael, Tony) for the careful thought and consideration they afforded this proposal over the past 9 months. Appointment of Dan Golding as Board Member

NANOG Colleagues, The Board has met last Friday June 22 and appointed Dan Golding as the replacement board member until the next election. He will join our next Board on July 6. We would like to thank everyone who submitted their candidacy for this interim. Your desire to serve is encouraging. We had previously announced that we would communicate this appointment on June 22.
