Updates Regarding COVID-19 and NANOG 79
by NANOG Marketing 25 Mar '20

25 Mar '20

The health and safety of the NANOG community is our top priority. The NANOG Board of Directors and Staff continue to assess preventative measures concerning COVID-19, and if necessary, will take appropriate action to reduce transmission of the virus. Based on the CDC’s recommendations to cancel or postpone events that consist of 50 people or more, we canceled the NANOG Connect event, previously scheduled for March 27 in St. Louis. We have also tasked the NANOG Program Committee (PC) with exploring the option of enhancing our platform to allow for remote participation at NANOG 79, and future meetings, in addition to in-person attendance. The PC will communicate more details about this option as we draw closer to NANOG 79. Registration to attend NANOG 79 (June 1-3, in Boston) remains open <https://www.nanog.org/meetings/nanog-79/nanog-79-registration/>, and early-bird registration has been extended to May 1, 2020. We encourage the community to continue submitting talk proposals <https://www.nanog.org/meetings/nanog-79/submit-presentation/> for NANOG 79, and all future meetings. As NANOG 79 draws closer, we will keep the community informed with further details. Our next update will be on April 15. To learn more about COVID-19, we suggest consulting the following authoritative sources in NANOG's service region: the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention <https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/index.html>, the World Health Organization <https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019>, and Harvard Medical School <https://www.health.harvard.edu/diseases-and-conditions/coronavirus-resource…>, which include common-sense advice on prevention and treatment. The NANOG Board of Directors and Staff are closely monitoring the latest reports and recommendations about COVID-19, and how this may impact NANOG 79 <https://www.nanog.org/meetings/nanog-79/> in Boston, in June. The health and safety of the NANOG community is our top priority. As a result, we have cancelled the NANOG Connect event, which was previously scheduled for March 27 in St. Louis. As the situation in North America and the rest of the world further develops, we will continue to assess preventative measures, and if necessary, take appropriate action to reduce transmission of the virus. As NANOG 79 draws closer, we will continue to keep the community informed with further details. The next update will be on March 25. Registration for NANOG 79 remains open, and the March 30 early-bird registration discount will be extended. We encourage the community to continue submitting <https://www.nanog.org/meetings/nanog-79/submit-presentation/> talk proposals for NANOG 79, and all future meetings. To learn more about COVID-19, we suggest consulting the following authoritative sources in NANOG's service region: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention <https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/index.html>, the World Health Organization <https://www.who.int/emergencies/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019>, and Harvard Medical School <https://www.health.harvard.edu/diseases-and-conditions/coronavirus-resource…>, which include common-sense advice on prevention and treatment. Coronavirus Statement
by NANOG Marketing 05 Mar '20

05 Mar '20

We understand you may have concerns regarding the COVID-19 coronavirus. To date, the areas of the world most impacted by the virus are outside the North American region, which NANOG serves. The NANOG Board of Directors and executive team are closely watching the latest news reports as information about the virus rapidly changes, and how this may or may not impact the upcoming conference. There is no information at this time that suggests we should cancel NANOG 79, but we assure you we’ll keep the entire NANOG community up to date as information changes, and we learn more. In the meantime, we invite you to review some of the latest news on COVID-19 via the CDC <https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/about/prevention-treatment.html>, the New York Times <https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/26/world/asia/coronavirus-news.html?referri…>, and Harvard Medical School <https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/as-coronavirus-spreads-many-questions-a…>, which includes common-sense advice on prevention and treatment.
