Verizon has been listening to nanog.

Strangely enough it's where they compete with CableVisions 30Mbps down, 5Mbps up plan first. -- Leo Bicknell - bicknell@ufp.org - CCIE 3440 PGP keys at http://www.ufp.org/~bicknell/ Read TMBG List - tmbg-list-request@tmbg.org, www.tmbg.org
I wonder if they will permit BGP announcements from the business grade FIOS service? Does anyone know? I was pleased when during the Q/A the question of service caps was posed as one of the first items. Regards, Edward A. man tun|tinc|openvpn|*swan|ipsec|... If they don't allow it and you can live with a few bytes of overhead per packet, nothing (except hard firewalling and doing weird things, thus effectively not providing Internet connectivity) can stop them. Greets, Jeroen

That's pretty sweet, now all they have to do is start laying the fiber over here...

The question here is always DISTANCE, and the plant topology. I live close to fiber, but due to the way the boundaries are drawn, I can't just go to the closest CO, I need to go to the one that is 50k feet away. If they can do even 10Mb/s at a distance greater than 5 miles it's a welcome innovation. If it requires 350Mhz capable copper, only works up to 1k feet, etc.. then i'd much rather have a conduit with fiber appear nearby. Perhaps the neighboring Verizon plant will extend into the currently legacy SBC area, but I can only dream... Time to do my own build-out. - Jared -- Jared Mauch | pgp key available via finger from jared@puck.nether.net clue++; | http://puck.nether.net/~jared/ My statements are only mine.
