That's right up there with the congressman who was worried that Guam was going to sink into the ocean because we had too many Marines on it.... On Thursday, April 23rd, 2026 at 11:45 PM, Christopher Morrow via NANOG <nanog@lists.nanog.org> wrote:

CBS Sunday Morning, April 19, 2026 had a story on a company named Panthalassa, who take a large steel tube and basically make it into an ocean wave generator which can bounce around untethered, communicating via satellite, with a data center inside.
Perfect. What was that saying? "I encorage my competitors.. something something..."
Then there is Senator Mike Rounds (R-SD) who thinks an orbiting data center can be cooled by the low temperature in space, but nobody has explained where the heat can go if there is only vacuum surrounding it.
There was once this fellow that spun a story about space travel... how great and how much it'd be good... and then, apparently, after talking about this for nye on 10 years that person suddenly had orbital mechanics explained to them...
I imagine that a similar case is happening with the senator... Also, also your 'gotta repair a harddrive' costs suddenly got very much more expensive. _______________________________________________ NANOG mailing list https://lists.nanog.org/archives/list/nanog@lists.nanog.org/message/KQGKWBNH...
