How many ASs are out there?
Hi, Can anyone tell me how many AS are as October of 1998. I know there were around 700 registered ASs in the Internet at the beginning of 1994. [pag 178 of Huitema-93] Is there a web page with that Information? Thanks, Alejandro [Huitema-93] Huitema, Christian “Routing in the Internet”, Prentice Hall, 1993, ISBN 0-13-132192-7

The CIDR report mentions the number of ASs found in active use. One might assume there are at least 11k+ since new ASs are being given out in the 11550's. The highest one I found in a quick search was 11554. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Jon Lewis <jlewis@fdt.net> | Spammers will be winnuked or Network Administrator | drawn and quartered...whichever Florida Digital Turnpike | is more convenient. ______http://inorganic5.fdt.net/~jlewis/pgp for PGP public key____

That list is far from complete. A simple self-check reveals that we are not in there.

We're still building our NET so it isn't in active use yet. But, working with uswest takes time. ___________________________________________________ Roeland M.J. Try ftp://ftp.arin.net/netinfo/asn.txt but note that some blocks of AS numbers are allocated to the other regional internet registries (RIPE, APNIC) and that there are some gaps in the list so not all 11558 AS numbers have been assigned. It is, perhaps, interesting to note that a snapshot of a "full" routing table only contains just over 4100 autonomous systems including, interestingly enough, five from the "IANA-RSVD2" range of private AS numbers (64605, 65000, 65050, 65520 and 65521). --James
As I was scanning my mailbox, I completely misparsed the subject, and was already making a list in my head, starting with Jim Fleming, my old boss, etc. Then I counted the s's. :) D
