Hi guys/gals, I am looking for looking-glass software that is secure (i.e., that people wont be able to fiddle with the web server it's on). The security factor is critical. I have written such software myself, but as my boss points out, software that was already tested by alot of people, and that has been running for a while is better security wise than anything I can write and only visually test. There are quite a few LG on the web, some Perl based, some PHP based, and I even saw one in C (!!). I just want to know which is mostly used. My personal feeling is that alot of sites just wrote their own, am I mistaken ? thanks, --Ariel -- Ariel Biener e-mail: ariel@post.tau.ac.il PGP(6.5.8) public key http://www.tau.ac.il/~ariel/pgp.html
Myself and many I know use nitrous.digex.net when such a thing is needed. Brian On Wed, 22 Nov 2000, Ariel Biener wrote:

#include <asshole.h> I dont think he asked "Does anyone know the URL to a looking glass?" How exactly does this help Ariel find some software to create one? I know you are just trying to help, but geeze, he wants to create his own looking glass, not use someone elses. People need to READ messages before responding to them. -Dave

Have you actually looked at http://nitrous.digex.net/ ? It contains a link to the nitrous LG source code! That code used rsh, I've got a modified version that use telnet, and at the same time checks the input it gets. available at http://noc.tele.dk/lg.cgi.public you will also need http://noc.tele.dk/Cisco.pm /Jesper -- Jesper Skriver, jesper(at)skriver(dot)dk - CCIE #5456 Work: Network manager @ AS3292 (Tele Danmark DataNetworks) Private: Geek @ AS2109 (A much smaller network ;-) One Unix to rule them all, One Resolver to find them, One IP to bring them all and in the zone to bind them.
we have included a looking glass (based on nitrous.digex.net looking glass) with rancid. it's not completely tested, but can be found w/ rancid here: ftp://ftp.shrubbery.net/pub/rancid/rancid-2.1b.tar.gz it uses rancid's login scripts, so it can deal with rsh, telnet, or ssh. it also has some support for junipers and some other bits.

One Unix to rule them all, One Resolver to find them, One IP to bring them all and in the zone to bind them.
One of the lines in the original was a question asking which are commonly used. That plus a source code link made it seem valid. Brian On Wed, 22 Nov 2000, Simon Lockhart wrote:

Well the link on the page to 'source code for the looking glass' might be a good start.
People need to READ messages before responding to them.

Dave, In Brians defense, the source for the looking glass in use at nitrous.digex.net is available at the same location. The source code for the LG I wrote for use in our network is available at: ftp://ftp.enterzone.net/looking-glass/mrlg-3.0/ It was written for use with Zebra but will work with anything with a telnet/rsh UI. I am by no means a perl god but, it works and is commented. Feel free to give it a try. --- John Fraizer EnterZone, Inc On Wed, 22 Nov 2000, David A. Snodgrass wrote:
