There was a telnet connection on vty 2 that I was unable to clear. Thanks to Laris Benkis <laris@tpn.cc> who reminded me of the sho tcp brief command, I was able to locate the tcb number of the established session (which was really no longer connected) and nuke it with a clear tcp tcb # command.
