Hi. I'm trying to recover the enable pw on a 2501 with IOS 10.2 (bootstrap: 5.2(5) release) and I'm failing miserably. I boot the system up, and send it a break (i'm minicom; ctrl + 6 and ctrl + ^ work as a break on a cisco for me), yet it boots normally, rather than bringing me the ">" prompt. If someone could pleaes contact me ASAP (private e-mail is best) I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks, Adam

cisco break is shift-6-x.. different things entirely

That is not a real break 0 more of an 'interupt'. I've not useminicomm - but on teh PC comm software i use areal break is sent by Alt-B... aid
You also might want to place a copy of your backup configuration on your notebook? That way you can easily replace it should you do what I did and lose the CONFIGURATION! <eek> Typing on those notebooks is not like a SGI/SUN keyboard. I ended up rebuilding the IMPORTANT route and conf net rather than typing it ALL back in [static routes {pork}...] On Sat, 21 Feb 1998, Adrian Bool wrote:

Thanks to ~ 50% of you, for reminding me thaat the Cisco must recieve a hard break (ie Control+A, F in minicom). Shame on the other 50%, for providing me with responses that were, to say the least, amusing. (Including suggesting that I have a bad bootstrap, "incompatible" terminal software, bad OS, and so on...) Shame on myself for forgetting that I needed a nice, hard, break. Case closed. -Adam
