What are people doing for global paging now that Iridium is toast? Going out of cell range doesn't have the peace of mind it used to, now that my Iridium pager is useless. Chris
gsm sms seems like it might be a good choice... then there's something like magellan gsc100 which can do email globally off of Teleglobe/Orbital Sciences Corporation network(it's a bit igger than a pager... ;)... On Thu, 6 Apr 2000, Chris Caputo wrote:

GSM SMS only works when you are in, urm, GSM range. Many many parts of the world do not have GSM. Many parts of the US do not have GSM. And then if you want global access you will need a triband GSM phone. And intercountry GSM SMS is not currently very reliable - often loses or delays messages (record for me is 36 hrs). I'd recommend if you want pager, you look to something satellite based. -- Alex Bligh VP Core Network, Concentric Network Corporation (formerly GX Networks, Xara Networks)
