What is out there for route optimization products? I can think of Noction (no inbound) or Internap FCP (old). ----- Mike Hammett Intelligent Computing Solutions http://www.ics-il.com Midwest Internet Exchange http://www.midwest-ix.com

There is this but its old and not been updated in quote some time. Never got around to playing with it. https://github.com/kvogt/kyro On 15 May 2015 at 17:26, Paul S. <contact@winterei.se> wrote:

Perhaps, but that wouldn't solve the problem of automatically moving traffic when a provider has an issue on their own network. ----- Mike Hammett Intelligent Computing Solutions http://www.ics-il.com Midwest Internet Exchange http://www.midwest-ix.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul S." <contact@winterei.se> To: nanog@nanog.org Sent: Friday, May 15, 2015 11:26:17 AM Subject: Re: Route Optimization Products Problem in this space is, none of the products offered are genuinely affordable. Are you sure that an 'optimizer' is the right solution for you, or for those surrounding you (peers, upstreams)? http://www.bgpmon.net/bgp-optimizer-causes-thousands-of-fake-routes/

Sounds like multiple parties having improper route filters. ----- Mike Hammett Intelligent Computing Solutions http://www.ics-il.com Midwest Internet Exchange http://www.midwest-ix.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Job Snijders" <job@instituut.net> To: "Mike Hammett" <nanog@ics-il.net> Cc: "NANOG" <nanog@nanog.org> Sent: Friday, May 15, 2015 12:31:59 PM Subject: Re: Route Optimization Products On Fri, May 15, 2015 at 10:19:56AM -0500, Mike Hammett wrote:

Filtering is a must. But even when doing the right thing, there could be adverse side-effects when using an appliance which inserts fake, more-specific paths into your network's iBGP mesh. Earlier this year there was discussion about the subject, I'd like to refer you to this: http://seclists.org/nanog/2015/Mar/485 Kind regards, Job

I've been a customer before of a datacenter in Chicago that uses/used Internap's optimized routes and latency was always better than in comparison to other locations I tested against. That was around 2011 or 2012. On Fri, May 15, 2015 at 10:19 AM, Mike Hammett <nanog@ics-il.net> wrote:
