Okay, stupid question...
...but where the heck do you go to register new .edu domains now? All the registrar/registry mess just talks about .com/.net/.org, and although NSI's web site refers to .edu registrations 294 times in their documentation, it's always with respect to the text form submissions, which they don't accept any more, and their retarded web interface doesn't appear to have any options for .edu registrations. Anybody have any pointers? -Bill

I can see the future: Congratulations! domain.com is available The following Web Address(es) are currently available for registration. Select the Address(es) you want to register by checking the appropriate box and clicking Continue below. [X] domain.com [ ] domain.net [ ] domain.org [ ] domain.edu [ ] domain.gov [ ] domain.arpa ... Be careful what you remind them of. Incidentally, has anyone noticed how painfully slow domain modifications have become? In theory, with new registrations not being pushed through email, those should have gotten faster. As it is, I'm waiting days at a time for a modify to be reflected. NSI's not getting any more of my money as a result of this nonsense, but I still have legacy domains registered with them. I'm still waiting for some that went in, and were apparently processed judging by the email I got back -- a little over a week ago. (This 'Web Addresses' crap is getting obnoxious. But you knew that.) --msa

If anyone knows a registrar that's prepared to take on a couple of thousand domains through a growing reseller/domreg company all of which have less than two years left on them before renewal, and isn't going to whine and charge at least a year's fees just to take them on, please let me know. I've pretty much had it up to here with NSI's continual blundering, and everyone else seems to be so paranoid about taking on existing registrations that they're not prepared to outlay a small amount to take on a vast quantity of new business. I've said it before, I'll say it again. NSI are pretty atrocious, but at least you know where you stand. If it's a choice between "make changes" on NSI's site and "read a thousand press releases" on CORE's site, I know which I'll choose... -- Patrick Evans - Sysadmin, bran addict and couch potato pre at pre dot org www.pre.org/pre

How about the now apparently useless notify settings on your contact records? Before-Update used to work, but means nothing now. Before-Use was always a little flaky (but when it worked it was great), now appears totally dead as well. Okay, maybe I'm wrong. Is it working for you? (Is there a better forum for this? I seem to remember something.)
The entire issue of EDU registry is in debate right now. Ask Esther Dyson, of the ICANN. But, I doubt that she has any more of a clue.
