RFC1712 - is anyone actually using GPOS RR's ?
Hi, As subject says, is anyone actually using these ? We were thinking of adding this to our automated dns scripts ... but if nobody actually uses them, we don't want to spend time on it ... /Jesper -- Jesper Skriver (JS4261-RIPE), Network manager Tele Danmark DataNet, IP section (AS3292) One Unix to rule them all, One Resolver to find them, One IP to bring them all and in the zone to bind them.

i don't think so. it's still in "experimental" status, and the bind code has only this to say about it: include/arpa/nameser.h: ns_t_gpos = 27, /* Geographical position (withdrawn). */ include/arpa/nameser_compat.h:#define T_GPOS ns_t_gpos lib/resolv/res_debug.c: {ns_t_gpos, "GPOS", "geographical position (withdrawn)"}, so i don't think anyone ever bothered with it at all.

use LOC (rfc1876) instead. it's more or less the same, but with more info. -- |-----< "CODE WARRIOR" >-----| codewarrior@daemon.org * "ah! i see you have the internet twofsonet@graffiti.com (Andrew Brown) that goes *ping*!" andrew@crossbar.com * "information is power -- share the wealth."

Thanks for the pointer, then my next question will be ... Are any registering LOC for their routers/hosts ? Any visual traceroute or similar applications using this ? /Jesper -- Jesper Skriver (JS4261-RIPE), Network manager Tele Danmark DataNet, IP section (AS3292) One Unix to rule them all, One Resolver to find them, One IP to bring them all and in the zone to bind them.

Several, including a new tool from the caida folks. LOCs are good stuff. --bill

i've got one. yahoo.com has one. try this: http://www.ckdhr.com/dns-loc/ -- |-----< "CODE WARRIOR" >-----| codewarrior@daemon.org * "ah! i see you have the internet twofsonet@graffiti.com (Andrew Brown) that goes *ping*!" andrew@crossbar.com * "information is power -- share the wealth."
Check out NeoTrace at http://www.neoworx.com/goonline/nttwor.asp It uses a flat file or DNS LOC records. Dave At 09:24 AM 11/15/99 , Jesper Skriver wrote:
