Re: To CAIS Engineers - WAKE UP AND TAKE CARE OF YOUR CUSTOMERS

None of the DSL ISPs can do larger than /27 anymore, even when they're ILECs.
What does being an ILEC have to do with layer 3 routing?
'sides there are plenty of DSL ISPs that offer larger than a /27. Heck, I count some of them among my clients who consist primarily of smaller regional players. If you are looking for more major player examples that offer larger IP blocks:
Actually we have a /23 block that PSINet was routing just fine. A lot of people complain about the DSL technology itself, but I don't think the technology is the problem, but the competence (or lack of it) amongst the major players. All of our problems have not been related to the DSL technology itself, but rather the screwups of the providers. John

Have you considered the possibility that you weren't paying for competence? If you chose to call the _business_ services group of any of the involved providers, and order a T1 at normal price, you might discover whether they're competent or not. -Bill

CAIS apparently just sucks. I couldn't even get the idiots there to return my phone calls saying "I WANT TO PUT MONEY IN YOUR POCKETS" (as a DSL reseller), after several calls to their salesdroids from both myself and one of the senior Business Development executives at Covad. I was then informed by someone who had used them that their support was nonexistent - and I believe it. If they won't return calls that generate direct revenue, why should we expect them to return calls that don't? Other situations may be different, but I concur with Mr. Palmer's assessment of CAIS as incompetent. -- Tired of Earthlink? Get JustTheNet! > "I WANT TO PUT MONEY IN YOUR POCKETS" (as a DSL reseller) That's a contradiction. The more of their DSL you sell, the quicker they go out of business. Blah, blah, blah, make it up on volume. No wonder they're not returning your calls. -Bill

There is, at least, some profit margin in SDSL. Not in ADSL unless you're Ameritech and charging almost $200/mo retail for a service you charge your resellers $35/mo for. -- Tired of Earthlink?
