RE: RFC1918 addresses to permit in for VPN? (fwd)
I've been getting flamed by several of you off-list for picking on a "big carrier." As result, I decided to pass this one on to the list. --- John Fraizer EnterZone, Inc ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Sat, 30 Dec 2000 02:56:50 -0500 (EST) From: Wants to keep his job <spork@xxxx.com> To: John Fraizer <nanog@EnterZone.Net> Subject: RE: RFC1918 addresses to permit in for VPN? Yeah, this "network architect" responded to a post of mine on NANOG that using TAP to send pages was just dumb when I could simply email my pager "directly". Uh... Yeah, that will get my page about "the internet" being down right out to my pager right quick. Of course I didn't see his response for a few weeks, as it fell into my spam folder. I am and have been aware of it for a while, it's being fixed RSN. You can quit sending hatemail now. -- Christian Kuhtz <ck@arch.bellsouth.net> -wk, <ck@gnu.org> -hm Sr. Architect, Engineering & Architecture, BellSouth.net, Atlanta, GA, U.S. "I speak for myself only."

Christian, RSN, meaning soon in the regular ISP, sense of the word, i.e. how long it takes me to locate a sysadmin, awaken them with a sharp kick, then watch them scramble to a keyboard and correct the problem? Or RSN, in the Bell sense of the word, meaning 6-12 months, like how long I've been waiting for the DSL that will be available "RSN". In your defense, I realize that's how long it take you to write a plan, get it approved by 10 levels of management, have it reviewed by a committee to determine if it violates any Bell rules, have it folded, spindled, and mutilated, then have the work performed by surly, union labor. Perfectly understandable. :) Happy New Year! (And remember that working for a monopolistic behemouth means taking this kind of abuse cheerfully, secure in the knowledge that your burn rate is safely covered by millions of residential voice lines!)
