Hello--
I got your name from the Nic as the admin for the above domain "1829.com". If you're not using it, can I have it for my company, which is called 1829. It's a small design shop for students and young adults.
Problem: The number 1829 is an Autonomous System NUMBER (ASN) in use by the Los Alamos National Laboratory associated with an Autonomous System NAME (ASN) called NOTES. So, you can't have it. However: There is no such thing as Domain NAME 1829.COM. So, you better register it quick before someone else gets it. %^)

Hostmaster@rs.internic.net, What's going on here? NANOGER's, You better hold on tight to your ASN's! Thanks, Phil
Hmmm, BTW, with domain names like that one risks to get in trouble with the Whole New World of Java programming: java.net.UnknownHostException: Malformed IP address: "1829.com" at java.net.InetAddress.getByName(InetAddress.java:322) at java.net.InetAddress.getAllByName(InetAddress.java:378) at A.main(A.java:5) (The same "applicationette" run with "no.such.host" as the argument: java.net.UnknownHostException: no.such.host at java.net.InetAddress.getAllByName(InetAddress.java:415) at A.main(A.java:5) ) Dima Philip Wood writes:

Hostmaster@rs.internic.net,
What's going on here?
Nothing. Looks like he fed "1829" to a "whois" search instead of "1829.COM" PS - when I do a whois on some 1, 2, and 3 digit ASN's that are less than 254, whois gives me an "A" domain in response. There IS an ASN 10, isn't there? ------------------------------ ben@BL.COM Ben Liberman ------------------------------

Yes there is; however, you should feed your query in as whois "ASN 10" to get the proper response back: falcon:/usr/local/bak/src/gnu# whois "ASN 10" CSNET Coordination and Information Center (CSNET-CIC) (ASN-CSNET) BBN Systems and Technologies, Inc. 10 Moulton Street Cambridge, MA 02138 Autonomous System Name: CSNET-EXT-AS Autonomous System Number: 10 Coordinator: Nugent, William H (WHN2) whn@bbnplanet.com 413/296-4780 Record last updated on 10-Jan-91. The InterNIC Registration Services Host contains ONLY Internet Information (Networks, ASN's, Domains, and POC's). Please use the whois server at nic.ddn.mil for MILNET Information. falcon:/usr/local/bak/src/gnu# Hope this helps! Matt Petach
