Yes, high traffic of an abusive nature, i.e. google's email servers spew out a lot of spam. Just because they're a big company doesn't mean they should get special treatment when they're sending spam. Google should try it bit harder to fight their abuse problem. It seems the year began with major provider's user accounts being hacked. More than just speed is needed to defend these services. Other services that send password reset links via email may also want to rethink this strategy, in light of the situation. Clearly, the accounts are not being disabled.
