I think we have a different dampening policy, but 'YES' I do see some flapping on two different Sprint connections. sttlic01: 39593 dampened paths slkcic01: 36762 dampened paths --Ben Kirkpatrick Data Products, Electric Lightwave -not speaking for ELI, not even speaking- FIDDLE, n. Our NOC just got this from Sprint: Date: Tue, 22 Jul 1997 12:51:04 -0400 (EDT) From: Outage Poster <postout@sprint.net> To: outage@sprint.net Subject: network problems 7/22/97 13:10 EDT Hi, We are currently experiencing network-wide problems due to a hardware failure in our sl-sea-8 router. We anticipate to have this problem fixed shortly. In the meantime, customers will experience routing instabilities and delays. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused. Thank you. Does anyone have a count of the flaps generated by small/mid-sized ISPs today? At 12:02 PM 7/22/97 -0700, Ben Kirkpatrick, ELI wrote:

According to Sprint NOC at 800-669-8303 they are experiencing routing instabilities due to a "Cisco Feature". Not sure what that means. Earlier, it stated a Cisco Seattle router failure. I haven't seen an advisory come by way of email from the Sprint ISC. We are seeing a huge amount of routes dampened at mae-east and mae-west. Rob

Hmmm, this occurred pretty soon after Sprint eliminated their 'visible confederations' hack. http://www.cctec.com/maillists/nanog/current/msg00113.html Maybe they triggered a bug in the route reflector code? pbd -- Going to church does not make a person religious, nor does going to school make a person educated, any more than going to a garage makes a person a car.
