FEMA has requested the primary EAS stations around the country to continue at their current state of heightened readiness. GREETINGS: I HAVE BEEN DIRECTED TO MAINTAIN THE CURRENT POSTURE AT THE PRIMARY ENTRY POINT STATIONS. ALL TESTING OF PEP STATIONS, EQUIPMENT AND PROCEDURES IS SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. I WOULD ENCOURAGE THE SUSPENSION OF ALL REGIONAL, STATE, AND LOCAL TESTING AS WELL. THREE REASONS FOR THIS ACTION: 1) THE PUBLIC MAY MISINTERPRET THE EAS TEST FOR A REAL EVENT, 2) EMOTIONS ARE RUNNING VERY HIGH AT THIS TIME, WE NEED TO PROVIDE A CALMING INFLUENCE, 3) SHOULD THE EAS NEED TO BE ACTIVATED, AT ANY LEVEL, THE CHANNELS OF COMMUNICATION NEED TO BE AVAILABLE TO CARRY EMERGENCY TRAFFIC NOT TEST MESSAGES. I WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS MY THANKS TO ALL WHO ARE MANNING THE STATIONS. I KNOW IT IS A SACRIFICE, AND YOU WOULD RATHER BE WITH YOUR FAMILIES AND DEAR ONES, BUT YOUR SERVICE TO THE NATION IS IMPORTANT AND APPRECIATED. THANKS AGAIN FOR A JOB YOU ARE DOING VERY WELL.
