What's the source on this? 60 Hudson is almost a full mile from the WTC as the crow flies. I can't imagine that it is in danger of collapse, although it is in the "no drive zone" being enforced south of 14th street. Sounds a bit extreme. 60 Hudson is kinda north of the buildings that collapsed or are suffering from structural damage. I know people who were there as recently as 6:30pm EST. All I've been able to find was GENU ticket 1223350 (finger ticket-1223350@tickets.bbnplanet.com). If this were true, chances are we'd have heard it from more sources. As others have noted, Hudson St. is a long way away. Reuters says that One Liberty Plaza, which is adjacent to the WTC and was damaged when the south tower fell, may collapse. It's about a 10 minute, several block walk from the WTC to 60 Hud. According to the mapping services it's over half a mile away. I find the liklihood of large debris falling that far away fairly low. Both 1WTC and 2WTC were just over 1400' tall, which is approximately a quarter mile. Even if they had both fallen directly towards 60 Hudson, it might survive. There are also quite a few buildings in the way that should act as a pretty big shield. I think you probably got that from Genuity, which appears to have retracted it 20 minutes ago. See (or finger) their ticket 1223350, which states: "Although access to 60 Hudson Street is prohibited at this time, contrary to previous reports, we have confirmed that this facility is currently structurally stable." --msa

Note: 1/2 mile==10 blocks in NYCM, although this is a difficult metric to apply accurately in the financial district (where many of the streets predate the "grid system" of blocks known uptown.

According to cnn.com, very heavy debris surrounds the WTC for a distance of more than 10 blocks [closely paraphrased, as I don't feel like searching for the precise cite right now]. Also according to cnn, the collapse of each of the towers generated a [mild] 2.0 Richter Scale event. Knowing the area well, as I do, I also doubt that even heavy debris would be sufficient at that distance to harm 60H all by itself. a 2.0 even is pretty mild, but NYCM is generally not what you would call earthquake-aware either - I doubt 60H was built to any earthquake spec.

I can believe this, no problem. Personally, I would be *much* more worried about the ventilation systems right now...
