It is rather amusing, but please don't confuse the issue with "free speech." That's the funny thing about the First Amendment - it says that Congress can't pass laws that restrict your right to speak, but it doesn't guarantee you an audience. Stephen

so what "sensitive content" tripped the filter? was it legitimate (i.e. one of the 7 words, discussion of bedroom practices, etc.) or was it a bonehead filter a la CyberSitter et al? -- Scott Francis scott@ [work:] v i r t u a l i s . c o m Systems Analyst darkuncle@ [home:] d a r k u n c l e . n e t West Coast Network Ops GPG keyid 0xCB33CCA7 illum oportet crescere me autem minui

I see these all the time... Typically, someone files a spam complaint. When our ticketing system sends them back an acknowledgement, this filter bounces the 'spam' (subject is preserved, with a ticket number appended.) Thusly, we cannot easily contact someone about their complaint because of their oh-so-good spam filters (that only seem to work AFTER they received the spam.) Genius in action. --msa
How popular are these "content filters"? I got a bounced message from a mailing list I am on. Chik-Fil-A apparently thinks the word "damn" is inappropriate. jas -----Original Message----- From: owner-nanog@merit.edu [mailto:owner-nanog@merit.edu]On Behalf Of David Lesher Sent: Monday, May 07, 2001 2:18 PM To: nanog list Subject: Political Correctness Strikes a Blow for free speech.... Does this surprise you from an organization that's closed on Sundays? Not to flame religion or anything, but really, you should not be at all surprised by this.

I unsubscribe those people on sight. If these people can't handle messages posted to the list (or use an Email of an organization that can't handle it), they don't need to be on the list. On a good day, some sites still send bounces where they're supposed to go, the envelope sender, so of course, that's the listmaster, which means my mailbox. I'm not going to deal with an increasing number of bounces from political correct people. If they want to protect their fragile little eyes and minds, they can junk the mail, or at least not bounce mail from mailing lists.
