Peering in the LA region?!?
Just curious, but after looking around at several sites in LA, I was curious if ANYONE was actually doing any significant peering in the LA basin? Currently we are looking for multiple interconnects down there in the 10mbps/T3 range, however we can't find anyone... We currently have a little >1000sq ft in the One Wilshire building. Is there anyone else in that building? *SIGH* I was meaning to ask this while I was at nanog, but other events caused me to forget to ask... There is a scheduled mtg Thursday in Atlanta to discuss just such activities. --bill
CERFnet has a POP in One Wilshire with 2 T3s, soon to be 4. CERFnet and Los Nettos/CSUnet have a private peering arrangement at two locations. Other than that, I am not aware of large peering arrangements in LA, but would welcome such a move. --pushpendra Pushpendra Mohta pushp@cerf.net +1 619 455 3908 Director, CERFnet http://www.cerf.net +1 800 876 2373 Marcos Della writes:

In the Philadelphia area, there are 3 providers working on the details of a Frame-relay MLPA-arrangement. We'll be implementing it, then announcing it and inviting everyone to join. We'll probably include the SDMS cloud if (as Bell claims) they can gateway Frame PVCs to SDMS. We're right next to the Pennsauken NAP, so this is for the players who for whatever reason have no plans to be connected @ the NAP. But in general, we think it's better to dump traffic locally except for those who have high-bandwidth connections to elsewhere (providers/exchange points). I don't know what the Southern California-area SMDS/Frame situation is like. Here, usually the larger providers have at least T1 Frame (possibly multiple T1 Frame connections) or a >= 4mb SMDS connection. Avi

Hi all, ` with the LA region: I would be interested too. We have facilities there where we could even colocate. LA is kind of a stepchild of Internet I guess, and the developing markets there seem to me to justify a presence. And if we can combine this together into a NAP kind of a thing, I believe everybody would win. Please include me in further discussions on the LA region, if you take it off line.
