Thanks to everyone for their info and help. According to my source, the problem was in the Newbrodge switches. Tonight's outage is for maintenance on the Lucent gear. My frame circuits returned a few minutes ago but DSL still seems affected. Roy Engehausen PS.. Sorry to have pestered everyone for the operational issues :-)
