Renaissance Washington D.C. Hotel 999 9th Street, N.W. Washington, D.C. 20001-4427
Direct Hotel Reservations: 202-898-9000 Central Reservations: 800-228-9290
Room Block Name: NANOG Dates Available: October 21-24 Rate: $169/single; $189/double Cut-off date: September 21
Is this just me, or is the room block really miniscule (read: <<400 rooms), already booked out, and the hotel is now trying to rip everyone off with their "$370/night plus all that extra tax we make for DC by jacking you real good" rate? Comments welcome. As Norman Schwarzkopf said: this is the only city in the world where, after 10 miles of driving, you are still at the crime scene.

Both this hotel and the Courtyard/Marriott across the street claim to be fully booked. (unless you want a suite... :) --bill
FYI the Hilton Garden Inn which is about 1/2 mile has rooms available for $129/night. http://www.hilton.com/hiltongardeninn/hotels/DCACHGI/index.html On Mon, Aug 21, 2000 at 08:37:22PM +0000, bmanning@vacation.karoshi.com wrote:

If you want cheaper places, and are willing to take the Metro [hardly a challenge; the only way to get into real trouble on Metro is to eat, drink or smoke {$250 fine} in a station or on a train...] ...then there are places 20 minutes away in several directions. They also are cheaper by half. -- A host is a host from coast to coast.................wb8foz@nrk.com & no one will talk to a host that's close........[v].(301) 56-LINUX Unless the host (that isn't close).........................pob 1433 is busy, hung or dead....................................20915-1433
Kai, There are many rooms still available in the NANOG room block. The hotel is only sold out on the first day (Saturday, October 21). Due to that, I cannot increase the room block for that day. If you call the hotel directly, they will make other recommendations in the immediate area for lodging that night. ok, whoever answered the phone at the hotel before has either been taken off the phones or has been re-educated about the details and availability of the NANOG room block and promised price. A very helpful individual reached at the hotel a little while after 5:30 made all the wrongs right, and yes: rooms are available, except for Saturday night. Thanks, bye,Kai

I just called; seems like they do have rooms available for Saturday night, though not at the special NANOG rate. Perhaps these just became vacant recently... FYI, -adam
