Or a hybrid. I bought a copy of F1 2011 for PS3 and fired it up. In order to access certain areas of the game, I had to input a code when signed up to the Sony PlayStation Network, which was verified via the Internet. If I had no connectivity, I'd never be able to access those portions of the game. Needless to say, a lot of games are now pushing massive updates via the Internet; on the order of hundreds of MB.
