Yes, yes, you're all entirely correct about that. Back in the day, they were all the same, but this hasn't been true in quite some time. I'd be happy if they took out full-page adverts in the New York Times, as long as they let us know about these things. Of course, one could say that it's too little, too late . . . ----------------------------------------------------------- Roland Dobbins <rdobbins@netmore.net> // 818.535.5024 voice -----Original Message----- From: Sean Donelan [mailto:sean@donelan.com] Sent: Tuesday, September 19, 2000 7:59 PM To: nanog@merit.edu Subject: RE: Root zone change -- d.gtld-servers.net On Tue, 19 September 2000, Randy Bush wrote:

indeed! but these date are not about root nameservers.
I believe Randy operates/provides the servers for more TLDs in the root zone than any organization in the world, so I can understand why he is being pedantic about the root zone file. NSI is not changing the name servers for "." (root) NSI is changing the name servers for some TLDs. If you changed the name servers for .CA or .US, would those operators send out a notice or just do it. Since NSI has experienced at least one problem making this change in the past, which caused a lot of traffic on NANOG; I think its commendable they are now providing advance notice. If it will become a regular feature, NSI may want to provide a pointer to a different place where NSI will continue to provide the same information in the future instead of posting it on NANOG.
