100 meters is, in fact, the distance limitation for Fast Ethernet, but you can usually exceed that if the link is full duplex. Note that I'm not recommending that you do so, just stating that it is possible.
If your run length is more than 100 meters, and you're running half duplex, then I would say that is definitely your problem.
